Acquiring competence in problem-solving is a process that requires a hands-on approach and emphasis on four particular techniques. Using a step-by-step approach Following a systematic approach when solving problems is highly essential as it makes the entire process significantly easy and effective. This approach can be done by coming up with a problem-solving cycle that starts with the identification of the problem and ends with obtaining a solution. The step-by-step approach involves multiple other smaller steps such as problem identification, development of a strategy to solve the problem, acquisition and organization of crucial information, and settling on the most appropriate solution for the problem. Changing your mindset appropriately Sometimes, some problems may be so burdensome that a solution may not be available within a reasonable duration of time. Such problems can be restructured and another approach taken by changing your mindset. A mindset change should be accompanied by thinking of how a viable solution can be obtained. It also involves opening up your mind to new ideas in order to come up with a creative solution. This step requires much time to brainstorm and develop improvements that can be made at a personal level to arrive at a solution. Using the hands-on approach Experimentation, when developing solutions for problems, is such a suitable technique that ensures accuracy in the solutions developed. The hands-on approach requires experimentation by working with your hands to create meaningful solutions which can then be critically evaluated for viability. This approach is particularly emphasized in both scientific and logic-based problems whose solutions can be tested for fitness and suitability.
