Photographing DEVELOPING MY IDEAS
Type in any annotation that can’t be read: This design suits the casual wear brief for my retailer and the needs of my TMG. The print has been inspired by my concept board and developed using photoshop. I saved this as a jpeg to place on this page.
• Titles or headings can be added to the page using text boxes • Make sure you only use Jpeg images (no photoshop files) or your document will be too large to send • New pages in your sketchbook are worth developing like this example – with a photograph of design work and the text typed directly onto the slide using between a size 11 – 14pt font size.

Preparing a PDF for submission
Are you ready to submit your portfolio? Have you remembered to include any proposals, reflection, evaluation/reports and a list of your sources as a bibliography?? These are best submitted as part of the portfolio document so that you only upload once to Turnitin • Check your portfolio page order is correct and all the images are the correct orientation, size and format. • If you have placed any Photoshop or illustrator documents, flatten the layers and save them as Jpegs to reduce the document file size. Each submission has a file size maximum of 250mb. • Files larger than this will not send.
Preparing a PDF for submission • Are you sure you have finished? Any physical models or samples will need to be photographed – from different view-points if necessary – and included in the digital portfolio. Don’t forget to explain what they are. • To save your document as a PDF go to File> Export. • Save to your documents / desktop / USB as a PDF
Compressing your Power Point If you are not sure how big your images are or have used a lot of cropping When still in your original Power Point: Go to File > Compress Pictures… This opens up the window below. Select ‘Email (96ppi)’ then press ok. You can also select to discard waste areas of cropping at the same time. This will make your folder much smaller and ready to make into a PDF.
Size checking
To check the size of your PDF file, right click on the file icon. • Go to Finder > File> Get Info • This opens up a window giving you the file size information.
If your File is over 250MB
If you need to reduce the size of your PDF; open it in acrobat, which is the default program Go to File> Reduce File Size
Size checking
You will then be asked to save again, and you will get a success message When you check the file size again, you will see its much smaller
Submitting Your Digital Portfolio You are now ready to submit your document.
• Go to the SOL and select the unit you are making the submission for • Select the ‘Assessment’ tab. • At the bottom of this page, you should see a hand symbol • Click on the hand symbol and follow the steps on SOL to upload your document and you are done
• Please ensure you try to upload your work with plenty of time before the deadline in case of any issues. Tutors will try and email back to people as soon as possible, however if we have lots of emails come through at once, we can’t guarantee we will get back to you straight away • Please help each other out, also check the submitting your work tab here: https://learn.solent.ac.uk/course/view.php?id=14720
Points to remember: Please photograph your pages and place one photo on each page, resizing to fit, until it looks like your original sketchbook. Use picture editing to make your page legible. Can you and your assessor read what is written clearly? Save your document as a Power Point and PDF. Resize if over 250mb NB If you upload Photoshop documents, this increases the file size. Place Jpeg saved versions into photoshop instead. Click on the Hand /file icon in the assessments section of your unit Follow the instructions – leave yourself plenty of time! After 4pm is a late submission capping your grade; plan to upload before lunchtime.
