10 tips to safety ten tips for a safe New Years Eve

Thousands of people get hurt each year due to firework related accidents. The injuries usually affect hands, fingers, face and eyes, often resulting in hospitalization. However innocent fireworks may look, do not let it fool you! This article will show you 10 easy tips on how to prevent firework accidents! 1. Do not manufacture your own fireworks. Legal, store bought fireworks are assembled by professionals, who know what they’re doing and who understand how the different ingredients mix together. Even when you use standard ingredients and nothing else, you can still get hurt. 2.

Never light fireworks under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

3. Do not light fireworks inside. Aside from the obvious fire hazards, it could also cause permanent hearing problems. 4.

Always keep a bucket of water nearby for emergencies.

5. Pick an area far away from flammable materials like housing, weeds, trees and grass. Preferably on a large piece of concrete or asphalt.

8. Place fireworks on the ground when you light it. Do not use bottles or cans and definitely don’t keep it in your hand. 9. Walk away slowly. It may seem logical to run away, but this will increase the chance that you will trip and fall. 10. Fireworks that didn’t go off? Wait at least five minutes before checking it out, it might still explode. If it still hasn’t gone off after five minutes, throw some water on it and then throw it away. Do not try to light it again!

6. Be extra careful around children and never aim fireworks at other people or animals. Especially do not let children light fireworks themselves.

Accidents involving fireworks will never stop, it is and will always be dangerous. The safest thing is just to watch professionals light fireworks in stead of doing it yourself. But, if you can’t help but light fireworks on new years ‘eve, follow these ten tips to lower the risks.

7. Steek het vuurwerk alleen op en ga er niet met meerdere personen omheen staan. Het is moeilijker om op tijd weg te komen en je ziet niet goed wat je doet.

Happy New Year!

BRANDNEW “New Years Eve”

It really is a feelgood movie. “New Year’s Eve” is all about love. People who want it and find it, but also people who do not even want it, find it. Everybody leaves the cinema with a smile of his or her face, fulfilled with joy. If you like movies that always end well and do not have spectaculair plot twists. “New Years Eve” is the “Love Actually” for New Years Eve. Instead of Christmas, this movie takes place during the last day of the year. You follow different short stories which will come together at the end of the movie. The cast for this movie is surprisingly good. Jon Bon Jovi wants to make up with his ex-fiancee Katherine Heigl, by playing her a love song. Ashton Kutcher and the girl from Glee, Lea Michele, fall in love in a broken elevator. Sarah Jessica Parker is a single mom with a mysterious date at twelve o’clock. Jessica Biel is pregnant and wants to win money with the first new born baby of 2012. Josh Duhamel is a player and business men, with also a mysterious date at twelve o’clock. Halle Barry is a nurse, she can not be together on New Years Eve with her husband, because he is in the army. Robert de Niro is a terminal cancer patient, his last wish is to see the Ball on Times Square drop at midnight. Hilary Swank is a insecure businesswoman, she needs to make sure the Ball will drop at midnight. Zac Efron is a postman and, last but not least, Michelle Pfeifer as insecure wallflower. Zac Efron helps Michelle Pfeifer with her list of good intentions. Mix this all together and you have “New Years Eve”. The stories are nice, but it is just to many for one movie. It is just too short to really feel with the characters. This is something they need to work on for the next feelgood movie! This team also made “Valentine’s Day”, a movie with the same Construction as this one. I am curious which holiday is next in line!

Rituals

BRANDNEW .. Of New Years Eve

The last day of the year is a beautiful day to take a look at yourself. What did you do well this year? And what did you do wrong? A new year means a new beginning, a great moment to start over. To be a better version of yourself. Many people start the new year with an good intention, or even a whole list of good intentions. Do you want to stop smoking? Drink less alcohol? Be a better student? Eat more healthy food? This is the moment to turn your live around! In the Netherlands we call New Years Eve “Oud en Nieuw” of “Oudejaarsavond”. And is usually a celebrations with your family and nearest friends. The people in Holland will only eat with this celebration “Oliebollen” and “Appelflappen”, traditional Dutch snack food! On television there is every year a “Oudejaarsconference”, which is a perfomance on tv, including a stand-up comedian, who gives us a funny review of the past year. We all light our own fire work and drink a lot of champagne. But why do we do all this? The people light the fire work to scare away the demons and ghosts. They have a bad influence on our livestock and crop. We had to keep the demons and ghosts happy, so we give them a lot of food too. That’s why the Dutch have so many snack food during New Years Eve. We wish each other a happy new year, so we get those wishes back. It is really something you do for your own good. Every year there is a campaign that gives people awareness of the fact that fire work is dangerous. The campaign “Je bent een rund als je met vuurwerk stunt” is one of the most famous campaigns. It means, you are a cow if you are not secure with fire work, because you lose your hand in no time. We hope that you will start this new year safe and with all your fingers. An good intention for you this year: to start the new year in good health! Enjoy your New Years Eve!

BRANDNEW 1st January, 2012 - 05:30 PM

Good morning. It’s 5:30 pm. But that’s how we do it after New Year’s Eve. The first day of the year and almost everybody got a Hangover. At least I do and my friends do. About an hour ago, I woke up with a big headache. And I knew that in a few hours my first new year’s meeting was on my agenda. Yesterday in the afternoon, I told myself that I wanted to cut down drinking alcohol for the next year. However after my first new year’s meeting of this afternoon and New Year’s Eve itself, I have been more drunk then sober in the whole year of 2012. Why do we all choose especially this day to start with our good intentions? Why don’t start on 14th of January. For example, I am a field hockey player. January is my free month because it is wintertime. From the start of February until the end of April it’s competition time. Therefore, it’s more logical to live up to my good intentions while I have to be sober during competition time. Sounds logical right? Well it is, but it doesn’t work that way. I think it’s about a sort of feeling. When it’s New Year’s Eve you are together with everybody and counting down for a new year so it’s such a special moment. All right, the start of my hockey season is also special but not in a New Year kind of way. Therefore, last year I’ve tried it. January was all about fun and drinking with friends. After that, the first of February, I started. It went well for almost 2 weeks. After those 2 weeks, we had a “new competition” drink and the week after a dinner with the team. Everybody was drinking wine and having a good time, so why couldn’t I? What I’m trying to say is the following; I think we are too busy with planning. Planning our life, planning the future, but also planning when to stop smoking. And the same thing happens with the good intentions during New Year . However people, stop planning! And start living! Search for a balance. Don’t drink 7 times a week but enjoy the 2 evenings with friends and family. (Don’t) Drink when it’s necessary you make a good impression on a party. Moreover, forget good intentions on a certain moments. Just use your good intentions as guide lines and if you have an important week: don’t drink. If you are capable of doing that: good for you! You passed one of your good intentions. In this way, it’s more easy to succeed your intentions, enjoy them and let them have a meaning in your new life. Happy New Year and I wish you all the best in a balanced year!

Times Square

Biggest party of the year at the center of the world

New York City. One of the biggest cities in the world and definitely one of the most important. On December 31, 1907, a ball dropped at Times Square to mark the ending of that year. People thought that it was a great way to count down for the New Year. Times Square has held the main New Year’s celebration in New York City ever since. Almost a million people come together to watch the Waterford Crystal ball coming down the pole atop the building, marking the start of the new year. When they started in 1907 there were only a couple of thousand people while nowadays about one million people gather for the ball lowering. Nowadays it is a big spectacle and the ball lowering is famous around the whole world. The ball is symbol for the world and it lowers a bit every hour. In addition to the normal new year celebration, there will be a small celebration every hour to celebrate the fact that it became New Year in another time zone. If you want to be a part of the action yourself you should plan to arrive early. Actually, no later than 3 pm to safe a spot. There is a little pre-celebration every hour in Times Square, as different countries celebrate the New Year around the world in different time zones. It is a special feeling to count down the last seconds every hour for another country. If you are lucky to have a room with view of the square on New Year ’s Eve, you can experience everything from above in a warm, more luxurious atmosphere of your room and still view all the action. To be in New York with New Year ’s Eve is definitely something you will remember forever. I talked to a few people who have been there and everybody said it was unbelievable. However, they also said, don’t forget you are between hundred of thousands of people. Therefore, if you have a weak hart don’t do it because you get crushed between the celebrating mass. So for all the people that love parties on New Year’s Eve, this is the one you certainly have join once in your lifetime. Party along with one million people for the eightieth year in a row. I’m definitely going and will report you afterwards how I experienced the biggest New Year’s party of the world. For now the best wishes and I wish you all a great New Year.

Baby you are firework! Katy Perry, the queen of pop music, will give a smashing live performance. This new year is all about firework, color and music. 2011 was a great year for singer Katy Perry. She had lots of successes and she even matched the record of Michael Jackson, 5 number one hits at one album. And now, this New years Eve, she will come to Amsterdam! The Heineken Music Hall will be the place to be this year. From 23.00 till 02.00 A.M Katy runs the show. At 12 o clock there will be a huge firework to celebrate 2012. Check the site for more info!

New year’s kiss! The organizer of New Year’s Eve in New York is trying to set a record this year. They want to organize the biggest kiss moment ever. Which other place could possibly be better for this then Time Square. Exactly at 12 o clock the whole square (at least 100.000 people) have to kiss each other. ‘That would be a lovely start of the year and also a world record’, said the organizer. It’s also good for the image of New York: The whole world can see there is still love in the U.S. So, if you are in New York and you have someone to kiss with, come to Times Square!

Firework in Shanghai?! Not this time! There will be no firework this year in the biggest city of China. The government wants to give a signal. China is one of the biggest polluters in the world. Therefore this year there is a ban on Fire Work in Shanghai. The pollution caused by firework is much lower than car emissions but it’s more a principal thing. They want to show us that they care about the environment.

Different way

.. to celebrate New Years Eve

Just like every year this month there will be lots of events for celebrating Sylvester. It’s difficult choosing which party you like to go. The most visitors of big parties are young people between 20 and 30. You will not find people with the age of 70 dancing on the floor at those parties. Those people deserver’s a party to. However, that’s how a club in Holland thinks about it. ‘Doornroosje’ in Nijmegen is going to organise a party for those people this year. They think that a party for people who are at least 65 would be a success. Usually these people stay at home. There watching TV, drinking champagne and go to bed. But this year everything will be different. They will go out as they did 40 years ago. There will be music they know from the early days and there will be firework. The difference with a ‘normal’ party is that it begins at 21.00 and ends at 02.00 because Doornroosje thinks that the guests don’t make it till sunrise. So for everyone who thinks they don’t forget the dance moves: go to Nijmegen this year. Another notable party is the special festival for homeless people in Amsterdam. Normally these people celebrate Sylvester outside in the rain at low temperatures. But this year there is a rich businessman who wants to give the homeless ones a nice day. They can eat a nice steak and drink a good bottle of champagne there. And then, at 12 o clock they can fire up some firework. And now you may think what will that all costs? Well, for this year it’s totally free. The unknown business man lived on the streets when he was a youngster. He will not give his real name because it’s not good for his image in the business world. So if you like a nice and warm new years eve but you don’t have a place to go, take this change and go to central station in Amsterdam for more information.
