Hello Dal-Worth Members, I hope everyone enjoyed the Jan/Feb Dal-Worth Newsletter. I received so many compliments and people wanting to place ads in this March/April issue. I want to thank everyone for their kind words. It’s for the members of Dal-Worth!! We had another officer/membership meeting on February 22. We voted on the advertising rates for this Newsletter. Please see the pricing below. We wanted to make it affordable to advertise. It’s a great way to thank people, promote you and your horse(s), and your business. If there is anything you would like to submit you can call me at 214-498-7430 or email me at westernrider1228@gmail.com

MEMBER NEWS Wade Smith (left) of Geary, Oklahoma, was the busiest rider at the Arbuckle Mountain Futurity. He qualified to all four finals and won the 5/6-year-old $50,000 Amateur with a 221 on his Appaloosa mare Smooth Application and the 4-year-old Unlimited Amateur with a 219 on Lil Pep N Time. Coyote Rock Ranch thinks that's pretty impressive.

Riding Tall: Grant’s Journey at ManeGait When Grant first came to ManeGait in 2007, he was two years old; because of his cerebral palsy, he could not sit up in the bath on his own, and his leg muscles were so tight that his legs would naturally cross, making it impossible for him to move without a walker or someone holding him up. The tightness in his legs, with his weak back and upper body, made balance a real challenge. Then, Grant met our horse Hazy. After just a few weeks, his riding lessons gave him a new strength and balance. When he began riding, he would have to lean forward, so that his chest was just above his knees. Grant needed three to four volunteers to help him stay on the horse. As Grant worked with Hazy, his back became stronger and he was able to sit up straight and tall while riding. His legs, which would normally clench tightly, would fully relax during his ride. After five years, Grant now only needs one volunteer accompanying him and he can lift himself into jumping position while riding. He has overcome his fear of falling (a major accomplishment for any rider) and, today, is a confident rider who trots on his horse! Grant loves his lessons, towering above the ground. Each week, he continues to grow stronger in partnership with Hazy. Our horses and volunteers are the backbone of our program at ManeGait. Hazy, one of two Appaloosa horses in our herd, was one of our first horses at ManeGait. She will officially retire at our Annual Horse Show on April 12, 2014. We welcome you to visit the show to help us recognize the amazing strides of hope that Hazy has provided to countless children over her eight years of service at ManeGait. We have a current need for volunteers to help in our lessons and for horses to join our program. If you are interested in participating, please visit our website for more information on ways you can get involved with ManeGait. With your help, Grant’s story will become just one among the hundreds of lives that we continue to change‌together. At ManeGait Therapeutic Horsemanship, children and adults with disabilities will move beyond their boundaries through the healing power of the horse and the dedication of a professional, caring community.
