Pool Safety All children under the age of eight should be accompanied in the water by a responsible person 16 years or over. This person may be responsible for up to two children under the age of eight. The accompanying person should ensure that all under eights and nonswimmers remain in safe areas of the pool (i.e. in the shallow end, within their own depth of water and near to the pool side). The use of approved bouyancy aids* for under eights and non-swimmers is recommended. Spectators cannot supervise children under eight in the water. Spectators must use the designated area and are not allowed on poolside in order to prevent contamination from shoes. *Suitable bouyancy aids are classed as a garment or armbands and must meet EN BS 13138 standards. A float is not classed as a suitable bouyancy aid. We reserve the right to change the programme in exceptional circumstances.
Activity Descriptions Adult Lane Swim Swim lengths for exercise. No Music. For age 18+. Aquafit A 45 minute water based workout in the pool. This class uses the resistance of water to provide an effective workout without too much stress on the joints. Aqua Babes 4 to 12 months. Introduction to water for babies with parents or guardians to help develop water confidence. Aqua Kids 24 months to 3 years. Introdution to water for kids with parents or guardians to help develop water skills and confidence. Aqua Natal Group exercise session in the pool for pregnant women. Aqua Tots 12 to 24 months. Introduction to water for tots with parents or guardians to help develop water confidence. Aqua Zumba Party yourself into shape in the pool with easy to follow latin inspired fitness. Early Birds Start the day with a revitilising swim. Open to all. Flip n Fun Club Fun swimming activities using flippers. Booking required. General Swim General swimming for fitness and pleasure. Inflatables Pool inflatable available during school holidays and weekends. No swimming lanes are available during these sessions. Ladies Only Dedicated ladies session. For aged 18+. Children aged 14-17 may attend if accompanied by a responsible adult aged 18+. Lane Swim Dedicated swim lane available for uninterrupted length swimming . Parent and toddler 4 months to 3 years. Introdution to water for kids with parents or guardians to help develop water skills and confidence. Party Bookings Pools available for party bookings. Please ask at reception for details. Pre-School Ducklings 3 to 4 years. Introduction to water for children with parents or guardians. Basic skills taught through play using bouyancy aids. Swimming Lessons Junior and adult group and individual swimming lessons are available at both centres. Please ask at reception for details. Please note that other swimming is restricted to some lanes during swimming lesson times. Twilight Swim Adults only 18+ - low lights in the pool hall and subtle underwater lighting makes this swimming session a very relaxing experience.

Active Northumberland is committed to providing all of our customers with an excellent service, whilst providing a pleasant, clean and safe environment. To help you enjoy a pleasant stay please follow our safety guidelines outlined below.
Pool Programmes
Shower and use the toilet before entering the swimming pool. Always follow instructions given by the lifeguards. Adhere to all safety signs/notices displayed in the changing area and on poolside. Suitable swimwear must be worn at all times. Behave in an appropriate and responsible manner towards staff and other swimmers. Stay in shallow water if you are a weak swimmer, and wear flotation aids. Please inform the lifeguards of any medical conditions you feel we should know about.
We advise against swimming if:
You feel unwell. You have a medical condition (without first consulting your doctor). You have recently consumed alcohol, drugs or a large meal. You are suffering or have recently suffered with diarrhoea or gastro-intestinal infection. You are in the late stages of pregnancy (without first consulting your midwife). Swimming is not recommended for babies under 6 months old.
Pool Parties / Pool Hire
Both centres have pools that are available to hire out for your exclusive use with or without a pool inflatable. Prices vary, please ask at reception. This leaflet is available in large print or audio tape if requested.
