Club News Foundations laid for impressive Football project An ambitious £731,420 project has now started to create new sports facilities at a Northumberland School. The investment provided by The Football Foundation, Northumberland County Council and grassroots football clubs in the area, will be used to construct a full-size, floodlit, third generation, artificial grass pitch at The Blyth School Community College. The state-of the-art facilities will be used by The Blyth School Community College pupils as well as Blyth Town FC, Blyth Rangers FC and Blyth Spartans FC, who collectively contributed £4,500 towards the project. All clubs will use the new development to increase their combined number of teams from 56 to 76 over the next five years. This figure will also include a Blyth disability team to be developed in a joint venture by the clubs. The site, on Chase Farm Drive, will be designated primarily for Football, although it will be available for other activities such as Tag Rugby and general fitness training. It is predicted that when building work is complete, later this year, more than 800 local people will use the site every week in addition to 1,300 school children. BVAL will manage the site for club and community use. Nathan Rogerson, Leisure Development Manager said: “We have reached this stage after a huge amount of hard work by all of the partners involved in the project. On behalf of everyone involved with the new centre I would like to thank the Northumberland FA for its guidance and the Football Foundation for its grant and continued support.” Sustainable Sports Projects Newcastle United Foundation is interested in developing a project that provides free support to community sports clubs to help them become more enterprising and sustainable. If your club needs help in any of the following areas, increasing revenue, writing business plans, developing policies and procedures, budgeting, marketing, customer service and governance then take part in our survey to help the Foundation shape a project that could benefit your sports club and its members.
