Latest News Move IT Dance Show December’s Merry MOVE IT Christmas Dance Show was a huge success with over 100 dancers performing to current hits and Christmas classics. The capacity 225 crowd enjoyed routines from 15 community dance groups including the Diddy Divas, Mini Moves and the Freestyle Disco Dolls. Special guests from James Calvert Spence College opened the Show with a performance from their Boys Youth Group. Northumberland Schools contest annual Sports Hall Athletics competition Two thousand young athletes across 20 schools have taken part in this year’s Sports Hall Athletics competition as part of the School Games programme. The programme culminated with the county final on 31st January at Cramlington Sporting Club. Unfortunately funding is no longer available, without external funding through grants or sponsorship there will be no competition next year. Schools Outdoor Programme hits new heights! Excited pupils from the Dales School have scaled new heights at Sunderland Climbing Wall. Following a 6 week training programme at Concordia Leisure Centre, the youngsters were tasked with reaching the top of Sunderland Climbing Wall, one of the highest in the region. Meanwhile, Morpeth Road Primary School continue to get to grips with the outdoors participating in paddle sport, climbing and orienteering activities. Club News Eighteen months on from London 2012, Northumberland Athletics Network continue to raise the profile of Athletics. For those who wish to ignite their passion for athletics, a recreational running and athletics session continues to thrive with over 50 young people and adults taking part. Due to it’s popularity, the session will now continue for the next 12 months. September saw the launch of the A365 Academy at Chantry Middle School. A365 aims to inspire, encourage and develop all round athleticism by introducing children to fundamental skills such as running, jumping and throwing. With 35 children benefitting from the Academy and demand still growing, this is an excellent opportunity for young people. What’s on Sport Relief With over 100 people signed up already, the Seaton Valley Mile promises to be a great day out for local families. The event at Seaton Sluice Beach could be ideal preparation for the summer and is suitable for beginners and advanced runners. Outdoor Activity Programme A number of outdoor activities are available to adults and young people in South East Northumberland throughout 2014. Pegasus Archery Club hold sessions on Monday evening’s, this is an ideal opportunity to try something new. There are a range of Paddle Sport activities planned this year, including the return of Paddle-Ability on 17th May, an event aimed at encouraging disabled young people into the Paddle Sport. Climbing Club at Concordia Leisure Centre begins from early 2014 and offers the opportunity to try indoor climbing under qualified supervision. Holiday Activities BVAL’s exciting school holiday offer continues into 2014. Starting with an action packed February half term, a variety of activities are on offer including Dance Camps, Athletics and the launch of Newbiggin Skate Park which officially opens on 17th February. The Ability to Play programme continues to offer an extensive range of activities including ice skating and horse riding. Our activity offer continues throughout the year thanks to support from Seaton Valley Parish Council, Newbiggin Town Council and Morpeth Town Council. No Strings Badminton Ever fancied playing badminton without any strings attached? Why not pop along to one of the many Badminton sessions currently taking place in the area? Sessions offer a very friendly and informal environment to play Badminton and cater for all ages and abilities.
