Material v. Immaterial Program: design an architectural office for an eight person architecture firm with a residence for the principal located on a predetermined site. A study in the relationship of those things rooted in material versus those removed or subtracted from material. Identify the potential hierarchy of load bearing walls, partition walls, and openings or voids. The load bearing walls stand as a representation of material juxtaposed with partition walls, the amaterial, and openings within the load bearing walls, the immaterial.

design Architecture as a Means for Diffusion and Direction Program: design a monastery for twelve monks, including housing, meditation space(s), and a library behind the Riva, Switzerland landmark, Santa Croce An analysis of how architecture can be used as a meaningful “filter” in terms of light, sound, views, and movement.

light, shadow, and the third dimension
design - thesis A study of the interaction of natural light and screens to create interstitial spaces through shadows, allowing for the shadows to serve as the third dimension within a structure. Creating depth through direct and indirect layering of materials, patterns, and screens, and allowing patterns to inform and create new patterns giving a sense of likeness to a seemingly dissimilar and erratic array of objects.

european studies Education abroad during spring semester, 2012, in Riva San Vitale, Switzerland. Analysis of European architecture and use of section, details, and geometry in modern, contemporary, and classical architecture. Challenged to utilize various architectural approaches encountered during travel into current project and projects in the future, as well as find connection between architectural process and those of other architects.
