Childhood memories, travels, visual imagery, and the culture of Japan are some of the elements that nourished my adolescent years into full artistic expression From a very young age, I was already fascinated by travelling the world and the playfulness of memories that are integral to my work, especially Japanese culture and its symbology as it played a major role in my artistic research You can find some of these in my works like the myth of the Sun goddess : Amaterasu; the legend of the one thousand paper cranes ; and the fantastic mythological Japanese creatures . In the past few years, I worked mainly with these three symbols Some are more visible, and others are shown in a more subtle way to be able to share the idea of a common consciousness that we are not alone, and that we can find someone who supports us . A world where there is no place for alienation.

From the symbiosis of these themes, I want to be able to achieve new ways of expressing myself through the world of colors, the exotic, the innocence, and the unknown.

Luís Santos, also known as LS, was born and raised in Marvila, a neighborhood in Lisbon. LS discovered her passion for drawing as a child, spending long hours creating themes and characters Marvila has a strong connection with the train line, an important part of the neighborhood's history and development. This connection with the line and with the graffiti movement has always been a continuous source of inspiration for Luis, a connection that can be seen in some of his art pieces He started out as a graffiti writer in the neighborhood where he grew up, exploiting the train tracks and spraying his illegal practices . LS has since evolved into a well-rounded artist, with a portfolio that showcases his ability to embrace different styles and techniques LS's work addresses themes such as multiculturalism, women and nature He uses colour , triangulation and traditional lace to create an eye-catching, contemporary result. LS's work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions at various galleries and events . He has also participated in urban art festivals such as Muro-LX, Infinito, Mural-18 and Stone Art His murals are present in several places, including Lisbon, Alcochete, Leiria and Loures . LS also conducted workshops with children and young people in Lisbon. He has been invited to press interviews and online articles, and his work has attracted clients such as Rock in Rio, Galeria de Arte Urbana and Infraestruturas de Portugal Through his work, LS celebrates the multiculturalism that defines Lisbon, and his experience in graffiti adds depth and authenticity to his art. LS embodies the spirit of urban art, and his work continues to inspire and captivate audiences around the world .

The “Portugal Series“ evolved during my trip through this beautiful country between 2020 and 2022 The pictorial themes of my works develop completely autonomously, following neither conceptual ideas nor particular intentions . My visual intentions and color compositions are inspired by impressions and sensory perceptions Hence my paintings develop out of an intrinsic emotional movement and a state of “not knowing”

I have a BA in Drawing from the Faculty of Fine Arts Lisbon and I regularly approach portrait through a monochromatic figurative style using vibrant colors, obtained from a palette of primary colors The preference for figurative work is due to the fascination of trying to capture the essence of something as complex as a human being in such an ephemeral place subject to its immediate annulment like the street. My projects are always influenced by the location where they will be integrated, these being, many times, the starting point for the creative process

The piece I'm displaying in this exhibition is part of a wider body of work based on still frames from 50s and 60s TV shows and movies like. In this series, I attempt to renew or reanimate the old and poignant images that I see as still worthy of life by isolating them and presenting them in a new way . When I choose an image I prefer that the actors are not immediately identifiable; I wanted the beauty of the images themselves as opposed to simply a portrait of a “celebrity” .

The subject of my work is often centered around people and how they relate to place. I’m intrigued by how they either fit or don’t fit appropriately into their surroundings be those physical or psychological. Being influenced by other art forms like literature and cinema, I try to use a narrative to suggest what the characters are doing, may just have done or are about to do. As well as thoughts or doubts they might be experiencing.

Sensory perception for Natália is a spiritual activity, one that leads to a heightened awareness of both nature and culture—this thought process points to a new kind of realism one that is engaged with the actual processes of life. Yet, it also references the theoretical avant-garde conceptions of deconstruction emerging during Modernism

My paintings are meant to be felt but also analyzed . Symbolism is always abundant in them, with women and animals as my primary subjects I usually paint them in uncanny narratives, using different references and metaphors . My hope is that the viewer will forget that they are looking at a painting and instead see an alternate reality, one that is completely imagined or even surreal.

Some of my photographs exist in a realm that hovers between reality and fantasy, blurring the lines between believable spaces and imaginary realms Rather than altering the images, I focus on enhancing tonality and lighting to offer a heightened perception of the scene. Curiosity and a sense of mystery greatly influence my visual style, allowing me to express my personal sensations through the images I create

Non-Seeing series is my reaction to photography within the digital age, photographs now no longer represent the real world, it can be fiction. “Non-Seeing” also challenge the concept of traditional photography, which emphasizes the way of “see” or viewing. While digital camera process images that very close to the reality, in fact it is all digital data So I capture images and turn it into impossible, surreal view, to remind audience to be wary of camouflage in images .

“Seeing” or “Non-Seeing” can be related to “Exist” or “Not Exist” I am influence by Chinese philosopher Zhuang Zhou, he questioned why the sky is blue in color, I question images and the reality that human eyes can see. There is more data or information hidden, not trying to see might be the way to feel more.

I create “Non-Seeing01, 2023” by imagining Lisbon and its nature, it is my impression of Lisbon overall
