Heartland Christian COLUMBIANA — Commencement activities for Heartland Christian School were held May 19 in the Heartland gymnasium. Joanna Bell, daughter of Mark and Claudia Bell, Poland, earned a 4.02 GPA to be named valedictorian of her class. She was active on the Praise Team, Student Council as president, class president, class treasurer, NHS, Theatrical Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Leo Club as president, Buddies, volleyball, basketball and track. Bell plans to attend Youngstown State University. Rachel Bush, daughter of John and Peggy Bush, Salem, earned a 3.78 GPA to be named salutatorian of her class. She was active in volleyball, Leo Club, Student Council as vice president, Buddies, Student Ministries as chairman, class vice president and NHS. Bush plans to attend Huntington University and major in occupational therapy. Alexis Herrick, daughter of Shannon and Matt Johnson, Canfield, earned a 3.71 GPA to be ranked third in her class. She was a class secretary, a member of Leo Club, Praise Team, bowling and NHS. She received the Scholastic Art and Writing Gold Key. Herrick plans to attend Youngstown State University and major in digital media.

Jewel Brunk, daughter of Denise and Jim Brunk, Berlin Center, earned a 3.66 GPA to be ranked fourth in her class. She was a member of Student Council, class treasurer, NHS, Buddies and Leo Club. Brunk plans to attend Youngstown State University and major in medical laboratory science. Jaclyn Trapp, daughter of Robert and Janet Trapp, Lisbon, earned a 3.53 GPA to be ranked fifth in her class. She participated in cheerleading, Leo Club, Theatrical Society and choir. Trapp plans to attend Elizabethtown Community College and Technical Center. Timothy Chamberlain, son of Tom and Ann Chamberlain, Wellsville, earned a 4.0 to receive homeschool honors. He was a member of Leo Club, soccer, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Buddies, track and Homeschool Advisory Committee. Alayna Hostetler, daughter of Lance and Traci Hostetler, Columbiana, was named class valedictorian . She was a member of student government, NHS, Interact Club, cheerleading, received the UA Scholar Award and was named to the deans list at Kent State University. Hostetler plans to attend the University of Alabama with a dual major in finance and math.

West Branch BELOIT — West Branch High School held its 2017 commencement June 4 in the high school field house. During the ceremony, two students were recognized as valedictorians. Joshua Davidson, son of James and Vicki Davidson, Sebring, was named valedictorian of his class. He participated in NHS, cross country, track and field, NBC Leadership Conference and Mount Union Junior Scholars. He was a recipient of the Presidential Award, Honors Diploma and Elks Teenager of the Month. Davidson plans to attend the University of Mount Union and major in exercise science. Grace Skolosh, daughter of Joe and Carrie Skolosh, Salem, was named valedictorian of her class. She was active in the NHS, Mount Union Junior Scholar and co-chairman for the NHS Blood Drive Campaign. She received the Honors Diploma, Student of the Month for English, Science and Consumer Science. Skolosh plans to attend Baldwin Wallace University and major in education or nursing. Jenna Smith, daughter of Kristopher and Jennifer Smith, Beloit, was named salutatorian of her class. She participated in NHS, soccer, Pep Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and head chairman of Induction for NHS. Smith plans to attend the University of Mount Union and major in physical therapy.
