CALCUTTA — Beaver Local High School had several students under the categories of Magna Cum Laude, Summa Cum Laude and Cum Laude at graduation ceremonies 7 p.m. May 22. Josh Barber, son of Don and Beth Barber, East Liverpool, earned a 4.08 GPA to be named Magna Cum Laude. He participated in wrestling (placed sixth in state), Academic Challenge, History Club and Science Club. He earned the Top Scholar Award, Rotary Club Student of the Month and the Carl Hoppel Most Valuable Wrestler Award. He plans to attend the University of Akron to major in chemical engineering. Christian Cooper, son of Kari and Rob Miller, East Liverpool, and Ryan and Alicia Cooper, earned a 4.232 GPA to be named Summa Cum Laude. He participated in student council (president), varsity basketball, varsity cross country, National Honor Society and AP History Club (president). He received a full-ride scholarship to Wright State University and will attend to major in applied physiology then attend graduate school to

LEETONIA — Leetonia High School had two students share the title of class Valedictorian and one Salutatorian during its graduation ceremonies 1 p.m. May 24. Mitchell Baker, son of Gail Zappelt and Bill Baker, Leetonia, earned a GPA of 4.0 to be named Valedictorian of his class. He was in marching band, National Honor Society, a member of the soccer team, Envirothon, and National Ocean Sciences Bowl. He plans to attend basic training to become a combat medic in the Army National Guard then continue to Kent State University, Salem, to become an Anesthesiologist. Miranda Rose Stark was named Valedictorian for earning a 4.0 GPA. The daughter of Robert Stark, Leetonia, and Christa Stark, Leetonia, she participated National Honor Society and Envirothon. She received the Youngstown State University Trustee’s Scholarship, Academic Letter and honor roll. She plans to attend Youngstown State University to major in forensic science. Erica Nicole Gruszecki, daughter of Jonathan and Diana Gruszecki, Leetonia, was

She was a member of culture club for two years, National Honor Society for two years and played softball for four years. Nicholas J. DeLucia, son of Joseph and Susan DeLucia, New Middletown, earned a 4.0 GPA to be named Valedictorian for his class. He participated in Drama Club, Ski Club, Chess Club, Springfield Sentinel and National Honor Society. He was inducted into the Academic Hall of Fame, Student of the Month (March 2015), Academic Letter, National Honor Society and National Honor Roll. He plans to attend Youngstown State University to major in computer science. Mark Schuler, son of Jim and JoAnn Schuler, New Middletown, earned a 4.0 GPA to be named Valedictorian. BELOIT — West Branch High School had seven Valedictorians and one Salutatorian during graduation ceremonies 2 p.m. May 31. Alex Buga, son of Steve and Dorina Bates, Salem, was named Valedictorian. He was a member of National Honor Society, earned the Scholar Athlete Award, lettered in Soccer and Track, part of HOBY Leadership Alumni and the physics olympics. He plans to attend the Ohio State University to study Biology. Ashley Emigh was named Valedictorian. The daughter of Michael and Donna Emigh, Salem, she was student council president, blood drive chairman for National Honor Society, two-year letter winner in tennis, Future Teacher of America Secretary, fellowship of Christian Athletes and peer tutor.
