LISBON — Beaver Local High School held graduation ceremonies on May 25 at Fighting Beaver Stadium. During the ceremonies 13 students were recognized as valedictorians. Ryne Carlson earned a 4.0 GPA to be named class valedictorian. The son of Michele Ericson, Lisbon; and Brad Carlson, Columbiana, he played baseball and participated in mock trail. He was also a six year Summi Decem recipient. Carlson plans to study civil engineering at the University of Cincinnati. Emily Dawson, daughter of Dallis and Julie, East Liverpool, also earned a Carlson 4.0 GPA to be named valedictorian. She served as senior class treasurer, and was also a member of the tennis team, Varsity B, SADD, and English Honors. She received the DeBartolo Scholar Athlete Award, was a six year Summi Decem recipient, and was named the Review Tennis Player of the Year. Dawson plans to attend West Liberty University to play tennis and continue her studies. Michael Houk, son of Robert and Roberta Houk, Negley, was also named class valedictorian with a 4.0 GPA. He was a member of the varsity soccer, track and swim teams. He was also Dawson a member of National Honor Society and English Honors. His awards include Summi Decem, the Provost Scholarship, and the Beaver Local High School Soccer Boosters Scholarship. Houk will major in athletic training at The Ohio State University, eventually working towards a doctorate in physical therapy. Alexa Lynch also earned a 4.0 GPA to

COLUMBIANA — Columbiana High School had two students share the title of class valedictorian during its May 20 graduation ceremonies. Ashley Orr, daughter of Cara B u r t - O r r , Columbiana, earned a 4.0 GPA to be named co-valedictorian. She ran cross county and track, while also participating in National Honor Society, student government, and speech and Orr debate. She was a state and national qualifier for speech and debate, as well as a regional cross country qualifier. Her other awards include President Obama’s Community Service Award, Outstanding Rotary Interact member, Service Above Self Award, Lesile H. Cochran Scholarship, and Johnny Appleseed queen. Orr plans to attend Youngstown State University on a full ride to major in mathematics and minor in economics. COLUMBIANA —During Crestview High School’s May 27 graduation ceremony, six students were recognized as valedictorian. She was marching band, track, cross country, National Honors Society and jazz band. SALEM — Graduation ceremonies at Salem High School were held May 27 in the high school gym. During the ceremonies 13 students were recognized for having GPAs of 4.0 or higher. Nicholas Costa, son of Melissa and Tim Costa, Salem, Costa was named class valedictorian with a 4.281 GPA. He was a member of Delta Epsilon Phi, the National German Honor Society, and served as National Honor Society copresident. He was also a member of the varsity soccer, track, and cross country teams. SEBRING — Graduation ceremonies for Sebring McKinley High School were held May 27 in the high school gymnasium Corey Baia, son of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Baia, was named class valedictorian with a 4.0 GPA. He was co-captain of the football and basketball teams, yearbook editor, National Honor Society president, and a member of the baseball team. His awards include first team All Inter-Tri County League defensive back, second team All ITCL basketball, special mention All Northeast Ohio basketball, Alliance Review Athlete of the Week, and an Elks’ Teen of the Month. NEW MIDDLETOWN — Springfield Local High School held graduation ceremonies at 6 p.m. June 10. During the ceremonies three students were named valedictorian. Amanda Dicks, daughter of Joyce and Ken Dicks, Petersburg, was ranked first in her class with a 4.0 GPA. A majorette, she was also a member of Speech Team, Academic Challenge, the Northern Strut Twirling Team, and is a member of Petersburg Presbyterian Church. Her senior year awards include, National High Honor Roll, Hall of Fame and Young Women with Bright Futures by the YWCA. Dicks plans to major in biomedical engineering at Indiana Tech. Anthony Buzzacco Jr., son of Tony and Barb Buzzacco, New Middletown, was also ranked first with a 4.0 GPA. She was a member of Drama Club, Speech and Debate Team, History Day, Destination Imagination, marching/concert band, and pep band. Nicholas DaLonzo, son of Jacki and Nick DaLonzo, both of Wellsville, was named valedictorian with a 4.0 GPA. He served as student council president and was a member of Varsity W Club and Leo Club. He was also a three year football and four year track letterman. His senior year awards included 3.75 Honor Roll and Excellence in Pre-Calculus. Albright plans to attend the University of Mount Union to major in exercise science.

Perry Kimmel, son of Perry and Lori Kimmel, Columbiana, earned a 3.9 GPA to graduate 10th in his class.
