Artstate Lismore is being held from 30 November to 3 December in Lismore, with a two-day conference as well as a four-day public arts program jam-packed with music, arts, theatre, performance and creative events. Created in the lead-up to Artstate, expert Indigenous weavers will gather to craft a unique weaving installation that will be launched at Lismore City Hall and displayed throughout Artstate.

FREE COMMUNITY EVENT: LISMORE RIVER FESTIVAL & CARP MUSTER Community members are invited to attend the inaugural Lismore River Festival & Carp Muster on Saturday, 2 December from 10am to 4pm in Riverside Park. The free family event includes fun activities for all ages as well interesting information, including the secret of how to transform the European carp from an environmental pest into a tasty addition to your menu. People who love to fish can win a share in over $2000 worth of prizes in the carp fishing competition, or you can watch carp being turned into culinary masterpieces by chef Daniel Lange. Enjoy a taste of his delicious carp creations that will forever change the way you look at this fish. The Northern Rivers Science Hub will host a speaker tent with talks on carp, river health, weed management and more. Dr Matt Landos, Director of Future Fisheries Veterinary Service, will give a myth-busting talk about carp, covering everything from river health, native fish decline and what we can do to reverse this. John Larson, chair of OzFish Unlimited's Richmond River Chapter, will give a talk called ‘Oysters... Not just good to Eat’ on the importance of oysters in our lower estuarine systems and river health. Lismore City Council will have information on its Biodiversity Management Strategy projects including the Rural Landholder Initiative, and give a talk on flood management planning for the future. The Far North Coast Canoe Club will also run a come and try session from 10am to 12pm at the Rowing Club boat ramp. Other activities include: • Fishing from the riverbank – BYO gear and licence. Open to all ages with junior and senior prizes. • Junior fishing clinic. • Carp cooking demos and tastings by Love Food Hate Waste chef Daniel Lange.

Lismore CBD closed to traffic for power repairs

Essential Energy are planning power maintenance works in Lismore CBD this Sunday, 26 November, and there will be major road closures throughout the day. People will need to park outside the main block on this day. Crews will be undertaking essential works to telegraph poles throughout the CBD. Detours will be in place and the work is for one day only, with power to be restored by nightfall. Please follow all traffic control measures.

Rates Reminder

All Lismore ratepayers are reminded that your second rates instalment for the 2017/18 rateable year is due for payment on Thursday, 30 November 2017.


FREE COMMUNITY EVENT THIS FRIDAY, 24 NOVEMBER We are inviting families to a FREE twilight community event with activities, food, art and fun for all ages this Friday, 24 November to celebrate National Recycling Week. The free event will run from 5pm to 7.30pm at the Lismore Recycling & Recovery Centre, which will come alive with twilight activities for the whole family. These include: • • • • • • • • • • • • •

Families from near and far are encouraged to come along, get creative, see some inspiring artworks and learn more about waste and recycling. “We have decided to hold this event in the evening as it will be cooler and the facility will be closed to waste disposal, so there will be plenty of easy parking,” Council’s Business Development Coordinator Danielle Hanigan said. “There will be art from our Waste to Art workshops on display as well as the very popular Schools Waste Wise Challenge sculpture exhibition. Local primary schools have all made sculptures from recycled materials throughout the year and the results are phenomenal. People will be asked to vote in the People’s Choice Award and heklp decide the winning school.


“It's a great event for kids, and it’s all free, so bring the whole family.” People can also take part in the final Waste to Art free community workshop on Thursday and Friday, 23-24 November. The Waste to Art workshops are a partnership between Lismore City Council and Real Artworks to offer the community an opportunity to get creative with recycled and reused products. The final workshop is called Recreate, Revive & Recover – New life for old things! and people are invited to come along, choose from a treasure trove of discarded objects and give them new life with a painted design. The workshop runs from 9am to 12pm each day and a session will also be held during the community event for anyone who would like to get in touch with their inner artist. These sessions will be led by Lismore-based graphic designer, printmaker and visual artist Joanna Kambourian, who is well known for her artwork under the creative pseudonym Ms Browns Lounge. PROPOSED CHANGES TO ROAD LEVELS FOR UPCOMING ROADWORKS We are preparing plans to improve a 4.5km section of Wyrallah Road between Monaltrie Road and Wyrallah village. These works are funded under the NSW Government’s Safer Roads Program overseen by Roads & Maritime Services. We have received over $1 million specifically for this stretch of Wyrallah Road which will enable a number of safety treatments to be completed. In accordance with the Roads Act 1993, we propose to change road levels for some sections of this road as indicated below and are seeking public comment within the next 28 days. While yet to be scheduled, these roadworks are planned to be completed in the first half of 2018. Adjoining landholders have been notified about these roadworks. The public are entitled to make written submissions, which should state any reasons for objection and the section of road it relates to. You may view preliminary plans of the planned roadworks on request at our Corporate Centre during normal office hours. Submissions are due by 4pm on 22 December 2017. REMINDER: 2017 CAROLS IN THE HEART IS COMING 10 DECEMBER Just a reminder to save the date for the 2017 Shopbaby Carols in the Heart coming up on Sunday, 10 December. Australian band the Justice Crew will be headlining the event and there will be carol singing, entertainment, face painting, a jumping castle, a visit from Santa and a spectacular fireworks display. Pack a picnic rug and bring the kids for a fun afternoon of family entertainment. There will be food and refreshments available and lots of fun surprises. The 2017 Shopbaby Carols in the Heart are being held at Crozier Field in Lismore due to the redevelopment of Oakes Oval. The event is free and gates open at 4.30pm with entertainment from 5.30pm.See you there for some Christmas cheer!
