Tourist Drive 32 - This scenic 80 km drive leaves from Lismore and winds through the unique and historic

villages of The Channon, Nimbin and Uki finishing at Murwillumbah. The drive takes you through world heritage rainforest and beautiful natural scenery.

The Channon to Protesters Falls— Driving Directions 

Depart The Channon village along Terania Ck road for 15kms (unsealed road, approx. 30mins) to reach the World-Heritage Listed Nightcap National Park.

Lismore to The Channon— Driving Directions  Depart Lismore Visitor Centre turning left onto

protests to stop logging, is located at the end of Terania Creek Rd.

 On your right you will pass the Serpentine Gallery,

Nimbin

a community art gallery showcasing local + emerging artists. Open: Mon-Fri 10am-4pm.  At the next round-about turn left onto Terania St.

 After about 15km take the turn-off signposted

for The Channon. Follow the Channon Rd for about 5km to reach the village. The Channon This pretty little village is set in the foothills of Night-cap Ranges. The Channon is home to the original North Coast craft market held on the 2nd Sunday of each month. With up to 250 stalls, the market is one of the biggest & most popular in regional NSW. The old butter factory on the banks of Terania Creek has been transformed into the heritage-listed Channon Tavern, a bar where visitors & locals mix.

You can view Nimbin Rocks from the viewing area to the left of Nimbin Rd. The towering Nimbin Rocks are estimated to be 20 million years old & are of great significance to the traditional owners from the Bundjalung Nation and for this reason access is restricted. To get to Nimbin continue along Nimbin Road for 1.5km.

Molesworth St, at the 3rd roundabout turn left over the bridge onto Woodlark St. Turn right at next roundabout onto Bridge St

After you go under the old railway bridge take the next right onto Tweed St, this road becomes Dunoon Rd.

Nimbin Rocks

Protesters Falls Nightcap National Park Terania Creek Picnic Area, the scene of the historic protests to stop logging, is located at the end of Terania Creek Rd. From the main car park take the easy 1.4km walk that winds its way through Bangalow Palms to the base of Protesters Falls (45 minute return). The falls are named after the protesters whose anti-logging campaign in the late 1970s led to the declaration of the National Park in 1983 and generated worldwide awareness of the need to preserve our natural environments. Swimming is not permitted in the area as it is the home to the endangered Fleay’s Barred Frog.

Backtrack to The Channon.

Follow Tuntable Creek Road to the right for 400m then turn left onto Koonorigan Road.

Continue 9km along Koonorigan Road until it meets Nimbin Road, turn right and follow Nimbin Road for 9km.

Nimbin is known and famous for being a hippy destination and alternative lifestyle capital. Nimbin changed forever after hosting the 1973 Aquarius Festival, attracting students, hippies and visionaries from all over Australia. Nimbin is intriguing and quirky with its unique mural streetscape of indigenous, rainforest and psychedelic facades and colourful local characters. Nimbin Candle Factory - For over 40 years, this family-run business has been making beautiful traditional, non-toxic candles using essential oils and vegetable dyes. Open daily at The Old Butter Factory by Mulgum Creek. Hemp Embassy - At Nimbin’s Hemp Embassy you will find information and alternative hemp based products such as building materials, fashion, body products and vitamin supplements. Nimbin Markets - The Nimbin Markets are held on the 4th & 5th Sundays of the month at Nimbin Community Centre, 8am-3pm. The Nimbin Farmers Market at Green Bank Car Park is every Wednesday from 3-6pm. Rainbow Power Company - The Rainbow Power Company is one of Australia’s largest renewable energy companies, specialising in the installation and distribution of electrical systems using the power of nature, solar, wind and water. Open Mon-Fri 9am to 5pm.


Nimbin to Blue Knob—Driving Directions

Mt Warning to Murwillumbah - Driving Directions

Head North on Cullen St towards Thorburn St.

Continue on Cullen St for about 1km and it will become Blue Knob Rd. Follow Blue Knob Rd for approx. 6km.

Murwillumbah

Blue Knob Hall Gallery & Café is nestled below the sacred landmark of Lillian Rock, this quaint co-operative gallery offers a changing exhibition program & a beautiful outlook over Blue Knob Mountain & Nightcap National Park. The Cafe is open Thu, Fri & Sun: 10am-3pm, Sat: 8.30am-3pm.

Blue Knob to Uki - Driving Directions 

Continue on Blue Knob Rd to Kyogle/ Murwillumbah Rd. Turn Right towards Uki & Murwillumbah & continue on the Kyogle Rd.

Heading back along Mt Warning Road turn left onto Kyogle Rd & follow the signs to Murwillumbah.

Entering Murwillumbah you will be following the Tweed River. Follow the signs down Wollumbin Street, to the Murwillumbah Visitor Information Centre which is located over the bridge on the Tweed Valley Way. Tweed River Regional Art Gallery is a short 3km drive from the Visitor Information Centre. Once leaving the information centre head South along the Tweed Valley Way, turn right into Scott St & left into Mistral Rd. The building has an educational/workshop centre, four exhibition spaces, performance space, library & gallery café which serves delicious local food, coffee & Cake.

The Sphinx Rock Café situated at Mt Burrell, on the Kyogle Rd on the left hand side just before Kunghur is a great destination to relax. Visitors to Nimbin & Uki often break their journey here. Good wholesome food is served with a smile, from breakfast to evening meals. Free live music on Sundays: 12-3pm.

Uki to Mt Warning - Driving Directions 

Continue out of Uki for 4km to the Mt Warning turnoff.

Mt Warning (Wollumbin) is the central plug of a huge, shield shaped volcano surrounded by a rim or caldera. Wollumbin is a sacred & spiritual place to the Bundjalung people, traditional inhabitants of the region. Under Bundjalung law, only chosen people are allowed to climb Wollumbin. Out of respect for their culture, the Bundjalung ask that you consider not climbing. Visitors are however, welcome to take a walk among the palms & breathtaking forest giants on the 200m Lyrebird track. Mt Warning is the spot where the first rays of sunlight hit the Australian mainland.
