NOVEMBER

THE LINK November ~ December, 2014

First Things First Anything look different? The new format for the Link is meant to catch your attention. Notice how active our congregation is! Each unit, every circle, and all age groups of the church are engaged in ministry. Noelle and I believe that every member of the church should follow this simple formula: Worship + 2. In other words, attend worship regularly; then think of one activity that nurtures your spirit and another one that nurtures someone else’s. Over the last couple of months, we have used Jesus’ parables to preach about building a personal House of Discipleship. We hope that the series has stimulated new thoughts about discipleship and your involvement in the church. Contrary to the world’s wisdom, Jesus told us that the serious disciple should cultivate the love of enemies, self-awareness, forgiveness, and kindness. All are essential to our personal lives and to our community. How we live as disciples is how we relate to God through prayer. On November 2, we will begin a sermon series on Prayer. Many in our congregation have asked us questions about prayer. Does prayer change things? Why should we pray if God has already determined the outcome? Why didn’t God answer my prayers? As we head into Advent—a season anticipating the fulfillment of God’s promise –now is the time to ponder how the Bible answers these queries. The answers may be a surprising fountain of hope.
