Work Profile for Save the Children UK Michelle Lee – IT Trainer/IT Training My role at Save the Children commenced on 29th April 2010. I was employed to work 3 days a week, fixed term contract to set up, run and train as Save the Children’s internal IT Trainer. More specifically:Facilitate internal training, eliminating the need for external training where possible, by running sessions for up to 8 delegates in meeting rooms with room set up required for each session (completed by myself). Identify through interview the core requirements of the departments and their training requirements Identify up and coming implementation and roll out of new hardware and software Identify existing IT and user issues Create a range of core application training courses that could be attended through concise 3 hour modules Create and implement a training database and train administration to use for the purpose of analysis and create a charging procedure for each booking. Create a range of eModules (online learning tutorials that accompany the instructor led sessions Run a weekly IT Induction Session for new users Run and teach Modular Training sessions based around the organisation’s core applications Administrate all aspects of IT training Create Training needs analysis Contact and initiate Regional Training for the 6 UK Offices Liaise with IT staff to work with overseas projects through the Global Programmes Overseas unit Rewrite the Save the Children PowerPoint Template Support staff working on the CARE database, responsible for administrating donations to the Charity of up to 2000 a day. Introducing process automation wherever possible for more work efficiency Introduce more effective working practices through education Work with individuals on a one to one basis for specific troubleshooting sessions Work with Heads of Department with strategy for implementation of Internationally accessed databases for emergency staff Create a training programme for an application for Heads of Countries in developing countries to utilise an Excel based application for reporting. Ongoing training sessions to be developed in line with migration to Office 2010, Scopia Conferencing Software Development of a key Visual Basic Programming for Applications course is in progress. Creating Bespoke Training courses for Outreach Projects – training the project leaders who will then train the target audience and the beneficiaries of external funding. My time at Save the Children has been very fruitful and successful. I have been able to develop my own range of training course materials, both paper based and interactive, utilising standard Microsoft Applications, Adobe and Camtasia. My recent 360 review proved that the project to date has been very successful, whilst the confirmation of an offer for full time employment and increasing to 5 days a week is complete endorsement of the systems and implementation of the Training function. Included below are examples of some of the work completed at Save the Children, a copy of the 360 Feedback, some information relating to the courseware produced, and an example of an elearning module created to support instructor led training, and finally, images relating to the Access Training database that I designed and implemented.
The Access database here was created to record delegates, new users, and attendance, cross charging, reporting, feedback and total revenue. It contains many queries, and was designed with Save the Children’s branding, namely colour, images and fonts. It is used departmentally. The STC 360 form to the left shows the feedback, as requested for review, typically completed after 12 months of emp employment and annually thereafter. In addition to this feedback, which is completed by colleagues, Head of IT and delegates, Course delegates also completed course evaluation forms that are sent and completed electronically and recorded on the database
eLearning Module and Remote Access: Here is an example of a Modular, chapter driven eModule which is accessible to delegates who have attended instructor led training. Going forward, the intention is that it will be bundled with Instructor Led training at a greater cost, but also available to employees who are not able to attend instructor led training. It was created in Camtasia and the Output was an FLV, which can be accessed via the internet browser. wser.
The flyer to the left was inspired by EAT’s Wireless internet menu. It was created so that users working remotely could easily follow instructions on the 3 ways that the system could be accessed. It is introduced in the IT Induction and suggested that itt is either kept in their Laptop case or on their desks at home.
Courseware Portfolio: Excel Level 2 for Improvers is the most popular course. It accounts for approximately 33% of all attendance. It has been named level 2 as many delegates attending, despite having access to the pre pre-requisites still attend this level when it can quite often be clear they would benefit from the Core Excel. Courses are 3 hours long. l Going forward, it is suggested that there is an assessment path, leading to certification and relative to their performance pathway. Additional Modular Courses have subsequently been introduced – Process Automation has replaced the course, Excel Forms Form and Analysing Dynamic Data has replaced Pivot Tables. The last image on this page shows the Excel Advanced Workbook to complete. The latest addition to training will be the introduction of Basic Visual Basic Programming for Applications.
Initiative: This Page demonstrates work that has been carried out completely independently of any remit. The Course Outline at the top was created to address external funding that had been received by a donor. In a short space of time, they needed to allocate the funds nds to a project or lose them. I suggested a training programme to train project leaders so that they in turn could train Youths on UK Programme Projects in how to present their ideas through eNewsletters. Of my own initiative, I am in second round application for a grant for ÂŁ88,000 for a co-operative co IT Training project under the LIT Foundation. Although the details of this cannot be viewed in full here, more information is available on request.
Feedback: Here are a few examples of course evaluations...
Specific Troubleshooting Issue: This was a spreadsheet that logged courses that were run internationally, and the user needed to be able to answer 5 questions using charts. She was having issues with her tables as there were many subtotals interjecting horizontally, data was inconsisten inconsistent, leading to impossibility of creating pivot tables. Additionally, most of the data had too many data series so representing it graphically was also an issue. Source ource data was remodelled to be consistent, automatic course codes were created using TEXT functions, IF statements were used to convert text to data and COUNTD was also used in extracting data that met criteria. Conditional and array formulae were used and nd finally, Pivot Tables and charts could be produced as shown. This is one example of extended training ng function to embed training whilst allowing personal development in understanding real world examples and issues of the use of Applications. In reality, y, if Access was available, it may have been a more appropriate .application to use.
