SHAPE OF SOUND Sound plays an important role in daily life, and it is also a part that people tend to ignore. In the design, I selected five groups of typical interpersonal relationships: family members, lovers, friends, colleagues, and strangers. And sum up these five kinds of relations into ten kinds of states, suppose the sound is the dominant among these five kinds of states. As the duct space is an excellent sound transmission system, I use sound to express these ten states, and use a large number of ducts to carry the sound to form a space. Guide the audience to evoke memories of certain interpersonal relationships while experiencing the space.

How does sound affect people Sound affects every aspect of our lives, mainly in followed four ways: 1.Physiologically Sound affects us physiologically in very powerful ways. Hearing is your primary warning sense, a sudden sound will start a process. It releases cortisol, it increases your heart rate, it changes your breathing. This is because we’ve been programmed over hundreds of thousands of years to assume that any sudden or unexplained sound is a threat and your body gets ready to fight or flee. Sight and hearing are the two senses that allow human beings to detect threatening situations. Although sight is critical, it does not allow for a 360-degree coverage of the surrounding space -- unlike hearing.
Playtime is a 1967 French-Italian comedy film directed by Jacques Tati.Tati's trademark use of subtle yet complex visual comedy supported by creative sound effects; dialogue is frequently reduced to the level of background noise. Playtime is structured in six sequences, linked by two characters who repeatedly encounter one another in the course of a day.The sequences are as follows:The airport/The trade exhibition/The apartments/The royal garden/The carousel of cars. I extracted the representative sounds from the protagonist's one-day journey, then used red lines to represent the voice content and its movements, black lines to represent the listeners' spatial positions and movements. The space of events in the film is extracted to summarize the particular way of sound use in this film.

"That happens to us an awful lot. Even though we may know that a bus letting off its air brakes or a car backfiring or somebody dropping a plate is not dangerous, it nevertheless puts us into that state."
2.Psychologically Research has shown that people often exert control over their emotions. By modulating expressions, reappraising feelings, and redirecting attention, they can regulate their emotional experience. These findings have contributed to a blurring of the traditional boundaries between cognitive and emotional processes, and it has been suggested that emotional signals are produced in a goaldirected way and monitored for errors like other intentional actions. As a consequence of listening to their altered voices, the emotional state of the participants changed in congruence with the emotion portrayed, which was measured by both self-report and skin conductance level. 3.Cognitively Thirdly sound affects us cognitively. How well you work is very dependent on the sound around you. The loud music is probably taking up critical audio bandwidth and they’re not able to hear that internal voice so well. The most distracting sound of all is the human voice.
SOUNDS OF "PLAY TIME"
4.Behaviourally The final way sound affects us is behaviourally. We will tend to move away from unpleasant sound if we can and even gravitate towards pleasant sounds. Sound can cause stress us and make us behave negatively. It makes us less sociable, less helpful and less approachable if we’re in a noisy setting. According to Darwin's "Musical Protolanguage" Hypothesis ,"The mental powers in some early progenitor of man must have been more highly developed than in any existing ape, before even the most imperfect form of speech could have come into use".

INTERVIEW
TEST
I interviewed eight people of different genders, ages and occupations, asking them about their most impressive voice experience and providing the time, place and space in which the event took place, also their emotional development in the whole experience.I converted the recordings they provided to the spectrum of sounds so that I could see the difference in the pitch and frequency of each sound. “I walked barefoot by the river, no one was around, the sound of cars was far away from me, the whole world was just the croaking of frogs and the sound of the stream. This moment is full of peace for me” HaoYun Xie,22,student A riverside path along a motorway,Florence, Italy nightfall “I was working at my desk outside the window when suddenly there was a flash of lightning and the wind seemed to be about to blow through my window and I felt frightened.” Yu Lai,21,student beside her bedroom window,Hunan,China summer midnight
In order to test the sound transmission effect of pipes made of different materials, I used three kinds of materials: glass tubes, 304 stainless steel tubes, rolls of paper, which in different length and thickness, I played the same 15-second, 440-hertz, 20-decibel audio with a mobile phone and compared the original sound waveform with the sound after it passed through the pipe. In addition to measuring the changed sound waveform with instruments, I also felt the sound coming from different materials with my own ears. Usually, the sound coming through the pipe comes from the vibration of the air in the pipe. In the thicker pipe, I can even hear the wind of the air passing through the pipe.

Guide the audience to evoke memories of certain interpersonal relationships while experiencing the space. A. Family
B. Lovers
The first state of the fa m i ly is shar p and gathered, and the sound of family expects is always around.
The first state of a lover is intimacy, the lover’s voice is the most intimate voice for many people.
The second state of the family is wrapped, like a warm womb. The voices of family members are the first sounds that people hear when they are born. These sounds are always around in the early days of people's memory. As people grow older, some voices may become restrained and may become sharp.
A. Family
C. Friends
T h e f i rst st a t e o f a friend is long-lasting, the voice of the friend will still accompany you.
D. Colleagues
The first state of colleagues is cooperation. E ve r yo n e ’s vo i ce s a re equal, and their voices are the same in size.
E. Strangers
The first state of strangers is that their voices do not overlap.
The second state of lovers is distance. The state of lovers is a fluctuating curve, but their voices are always close to each other. The relationship between lovers is the most mysterious and unpredictable. I tend to treat it as a state of being close and away from time to time, but the intimate distance of lovers’ voices is special to other relationships.
The second state of friends is detached. Friends at every stage of life may disappear at every point in time. Fr i e n d s a re t h e m o s t co m m o n re l a t i o n s h i p i n i n t e r p e r s o n a l communication, some friends are long-distance, just like a long telephone line, their voices are never broken. Some friends’ voices only appear occasionally in life.
The second relationship between colleagues is divided by power, power and system make some voices not allowed. People are in society, and the limits of social relations make people’s voices increase or decrease artificially.
The second state of strangers is to become friends with each other and immediately disperse. Stories of strangers often do not overlap, and usually the two voices that meet by coincidence will not meet again .

ABSTRACT EXPRESSION OF SOUND AND SPACE
Sketches
Space sketch
Since the feeling of sound is often overlooked, I tried to express the image of sound with other senses, and transformed the feeling of the ear into the eyes. I used a sketch to express the sound: deep; wrapped; flowing; soft... The sound is sometimes like a cave composed of clouds, and people are dots in the depths of the cave. The second sketch I was inspired by a children's toy: a handmade loud-hailer, which I deformed, or stretched or zoomed in, simulating the path of sound waves in it. This is how I can more intuitively see the relationship between sound and space.
A. Family
I used a sketch to express the voice of "family", that is a surround sound, at the beginning of one's own "sound field", which is done with the help of family.
In this space, the audience can enter from the left or right entrances, pass through the tubular space, come to the core tube in the middle, and walk up the spiral staircase to the small platform on the second floor. The space is interactive, the sound of the audience in the surrounding columnar space can be transmitted to the space in between.

1.In this space, no matter which direction the audience walks, the sound will come from overhead, the sound comes from the surrounding pillars. 2. This small platform provides the audience with a higher view, where all the sounds are gathered above the audience, and the audience is in a sound space that cannot escape. It simulates that family relationships are sometimes urgent and inescapable.

1. This space simulates the state of whispering, and the audience can communicate through small microphones. 2. Here, the doctor's stethoscope is used as a space prototype, and the audience can use an enlarged "stethoscope" to hear the other's heartbeat.
This sketch expresses the state of a lover's relationship, the two dots are attracted to each other and gradually merge, their voices also blend together, but they are still two separate voices.
In this space, I divided the space into an inner ring and an outer ring, and I set up many small spaces at the same time, and these spaces are separated from each other, which is a metaphor for the exclusivity of the relationship between lovers. The small space shortens the distance between the audience, and the audience can enter a small semi-circular space by going up the outer ring stairs. Going up the inner circle stairs will lead to four small umbrella-shaped spaces.
C. Friends

2 In this sketch, I used a few tiny threads to express the relationship between friends. This relationship is looming and connected, and it is the most complex and common relationship in our daily life.
In this space, I used a lot of partitions to simulate the state of dividing and closing between friends. The audiences enter from two entrances. The first space is a large microphone, and the middle space is a symmetrical maze. The middle of the partition board is composed of frosted glass, and the audiences' sight is controlled and they can only be communicated through sound.

In this sketch, I used several dots to express the relationship between work partners. In the working environment, the relationship between sound and power is the most distinct.
Floor plan D 1. The audience can go to the center to play the role of "leader", or they can listen to each other's voice in the semicircle space. 0 2. On the second floor, the audience can participate in a voiceonly "round table meeting".

In this space, I set up three small spaces. The first space is the space on the left. The sound in this space is emitted from the center, simulating the voice of the leader. The two spaces on the right are symmetrical, simulating the scene of a round table meeting. In the circular space on the first floor, the audience's vision is liberated, and their voices and eyes can be conveyed to each other. In the space on the second floor, eyes are blocked, only the sound can come out from the small speaker.

E. Strangers
In this sketch, people's voices are like ripples in water, some large and some small, sometimes intersecting and eventually dissipating.

This space has two floors and is composed of a large number of round tubes. There are many hollow round holes on the wall of the round tubes, which are similar in shape to Chinese flutes. The audience walks up the steps. On the second and third floors, they can shuttle between the circular tubes, speak to the holes on the circular tubes, or put their ears on them to hear other people's voices. However, due to the obstruction of space, people can't know who the voice is coming from.
GRID OF MEMORIES Zhongshan Street is a food street located in Nanning City, Guangxi Province, with a history of more than 100 years. Now Zhongshan Street is facing the fate of being demolished. The opinions of the public and the opinions of the government have a huge difference. I use five outdoor installation works as a buffer area in the process of urban renewal to preserve the memory of this area.
REFERENCES 1.The beetle-in-a-box In the thought experiment of "Beetle in a Box", Wittgenstein assumed that each of us has a box containing something, and everyone can only see what is in his own box, and no one can see other people's. What's in the box. When someone says "There is a beetle in my box", how do you know that the thing he called "beetle" is the same as the thing in your box? What about that thing you have? Wittgenstein tried to use this thought experiment to show that we feel that the grammar of expressions is not constructed on the basis of "private real meaning definitions." “meaning is using.”The boundary of people's language is also the boundary of the world as it is perceived.

2.Language game Suppose that David was born with red-green color blindness, and he was taught "this is red" in the acquired education. So does "red" as language describe the cognition of color, or use language to give the object a representation? In other words, even if there is a unique rule, what determines human behavior is not the "truth" of the objective world, nor the "truth" of the subjective world, but the "understanding" of the subjective will. As Wittgenstein pointed out, “something red may be destroyed, but red cannot be destroyed. That is why the meaning of the word'red' is independent of the existence of red things.” (Wittgen Stan: "Philosophical Studies") People understand the rules of language instead of fully understanding each other's inner thoughts when communicating.Language loses its original meaning in its dissemination and understanding over and over again.
3.The Nuked Ctiy(Debord,1950) Psychogeographical studies show that although conventional maps convey a certain abstract, geometric kind of 'truth' about the urban environment, the psychogeographical maps were supposed to convey a social, experiential or existential 'truth'. The maps show an experience of space as fragmented and discontinuous. For individuals, the impression of a city is not the whole picture, but from people's "psychological map" and language memory.
Xinyao Lu,21,student. "The young king's appearance and his beautiful mother"
Hao Lu,18,student. "Obviously I only remember some of the descriptions at the beginning"
4.One and three chairs (Joseph Kosuth ,1965) Each exhibition has two elements that remain unchanged: the dictionary definition of the word "chair" on paper and the exhibition manual. The exhibitor should place a chair in front of the wall and take a photo of the chair.
Conclusions and inspirations:
In summary, I realized the important role of language in building people's common memory, and I was also thinking about whether I could move the world of language into the real world, using language as a tool to carry urban memory and emotion. I think it will make sense for the construction of the city's sense of identity and for cushioning the city's lack of emotion and sense of difference in the renewal process. Pengjun He,21,student. Language as a carrier of memory
1.Language wrapping concept
2.Concept creation entities
3.The entity disappears the language remains
Language is like kraft paper wrapped in phenomena, and when phenomena disappear language retains the phenomenon spiritually, just as the shape of kraft paper preserves the appearance of objects.
Lai Yu,33,teacher. "The tragic love story between his mother and father"
Some interesting findings: 1. The proportion of content people remember after reading words is similar. 2. People's concerns vary, some are obsessed with the title and story frame, others are concerned with imagining the character's appearance and talent, some people see bleak love, and some people see rigorous etiquette. 3. People's different concerns seem to be related to each person's experience and environment

Field history and surroundings History Zhongshan Street is located in Nanning City, a residential area along the Yong River, Nanning City has been a Zhuang settlement area since ancient times, Zhuang people have a weekly catch-up tradition, Zhuang people gathered in this street every week with poultry and crops, people here to choose and exchange goods, Zhongshan Street gradually become an important neighborhood around Zhuang, some food vendors began to live here, in the 1990s uncle began to become the region's management, Zhongshan Street has gradually become a snack street rich in minority culture and attracted many local residents and tourists, and now Zhongshan Street is facing the fate of demolition and renewal. Regional contradictions Nanning is located in the tropics, hot and humid weather makes the people here accustomed to the cooler afternoon to early morning activities, and the people here are known for their huge carnivorous population, which makes the night market culture here very popular. Optimistic and hot-tempered Zhuang people like to take control of the street and profits in their own hands, which makes the government in the process of competing with the people for management rights difficult, and now the contradictions gradually calm, the neighborhood is also facing demolition, but this block is still the local residents many good memories of the carrier.
It can be seen from the experimental model that the prism and the grid can be well combined. Viewers can choose to leave a story behind or take a story away, the size of the paper and the location of the crease will change with the viewer's approach, but the triangular prism form works well together, large and small. A new texture forms as the paper fills the space.

This area is located at the entrance of this street and is placed on the upper floor of uncle 9th‘s residence. uncle 9th 's monitoring room is cut out as a figurative space and embedded in the grid. The grid raises the viewer's perspective, allowing people to overlook the entire street. Uncle 9th 's monitoring room play the role of eyes in the early chaotic history of this street.
The area is interspersed with a ruin at the entrance. This ruin is the most typical lowrise house in the early street. Uncle 9th set up his first shop here. The figurative space is Uncle 9th 's costume storage room and living room. The grid space guides the audience through doors and windows, walking inside and out, allowing people to observe this disappearing building from different perspectives.
This area is located at the corner of the street. This was originally the newspaper kiosk operated by uncle 9th. Neighbors are used to gathering under the banyan tree beside the kiosk. But the newsstand and the banyan tree were replaced one by one. The new grid forms the platform and cover, as well as the newsstand space as old memories.
This area is located on the west side of the intersection of the street, where Ji Jie's previous shops were located. Some game halls and a self-built balcony barber shop were placed in a grid concretely, and the short space simulates the activities of Ji Jie's state in game halls.
The area is located next to uncle 6th's shop. The grid space is inspired by the plant market operated by uncle 6th. The lush plants in the south make the plant market look like a small artificial rainforest. The plants are large-leaf plants with tropical characteristics.
This area brings the audience into the indoor again. It is located in the tea restaurant dismantled by Uncle 6th. It is divided into upper and lower floors. The large platform can be used as a small stage. Part of the Uncle 6th‘s Tea Restaurant was implanted in it.

The gridded arch also echoes the original architectural form of the area. The inwardly inclusive shape of the 0 5000 Sectional view(area D ) grid is also a metaphor for the spirit of the street.

In this area, I quoted the typical tea restaurant space from southern China, combined with the grid space on the upper and lower floors. Sectional view(area E ) The typical tea restaurant space in southern China is a combination of Chinese style and Western craftsmanship: handwritten plaques, a combination of Chinese carved screens and stained glass, and a combination of leather sofas and Ming-style dining tables.
LAYOUT A starting point
This place was uncle 9th's initial settlement on this street. uncle 9th has been living here since he came out of the prison. His dilapidated bedroom is full of original handpainted street plan and business identity information. After the street gradually took shape, uncle 9th installed many cameras in order to manage the street, so uncle 9th's bedroom became a combination of the monitoring room and bedroom.
After the government intervened, all those thing were replaced, The oldfashioned screens hoarded in uncle 9th's bedroom left the first traces of the street's.I extracted uncle 9th's bedroom as a typical space, and the traces of uncle 9th's life here are also kept. The newly-built grid system raises the audience’s field of vision. The grid forms a round shape on both sides. The audience can shuttle between uncle 9th's bedroom and two discs, and write their memories of this place as words. On the grid, with the increase of paper, the shape of the grid is weakened and a new "memory texture" is formed.
B ruins
Here I choose a typical brick-earth building on this street. In the 1970s, low brick-earth houses built by residents were scattered throughout the street. The first floor of the residence is used as a commercial shop, scaffolding is set up every weekend, the boundary between indoor and outdoor is blurred, and residents work and cook on the street, forming a unique style.
This is also where uncle 9th‘s first shop is located. The space I chose was Storeroom where uncle 9th kept his lion dance and Cantonese opera costumes . Lion dance classes and theater troupes were the best way out for many poor people at that time. These costumes carry the memories of that era. The grid space is set up as two long flowing lines passing through the doors and windows of the building. The functions of the windows and doors are interoperable, and the audience shuttles through Inside and outside, the two streamlines provide viewers with perspectives that are not easily available in daily life.
C the newspaper kiosk
Here is another typical architectural form of this block——the arcade. As a coastal city in southern China, many people choose to spend the ocean to find a way to survive. These expatriates who have returned to China have brought Southeast Asian culture and architecture style, the combination of European colonnade and Chinese patterns have become a new arcade culture. People on this street set up a newsstand at this corner. The combination of the big banyan tree and the newsstand under the arcade makes this a small square where residents gather.
The space I chose here is the newspaper kiosk. After the arcade and news kiosk were removed, the small platform and cover erected by the grid provide a space for the audience to rest and shade. The concrete news kiosk also reminds people about this memory of the past. The space formed by the text left by the audience will also record the past arcade culture and neighborhood life.
LAYOUT D Ji Jie’s shop
This is where Ji Jie’s original shop was located. As a famous person on this street, Ji Jie’s story represents the stories of many residents on the street: Ji Jie, who was obsessed with gaming halls and gambling, owed gambling debts. She came to this street and started from the smallest fried rice stall until she rebuilt her life. This also metaphors the spirit of this street: this street is tolerant to everyone, and anyone can rebuild his life here.
The space I chose is the Mahjong hall and game hall where Ji Jie often visits. The grid space forms an inward form, enclosing all the concrete spaces. The audience can also walk up the steps and see the balcony barber shop built by the residents. Self-built balcony is also a common architectural element here. The chaotic management and dense population make the buildings in this area expand its borders like trees.
E uncle 6th's plant market
This area is the place where uncle 6th's previous plant market is located. Nanning has a tropical climate with lush plants. People buy large quantities of winter jasmine for blessing every Chinese New Year. Over time, the habit of buying plants on every festival has been formed. uncle 6th's plant market is a popular spot on this street. The plant market built by uncle 6th has formed a small "artificial rainforest".
The grid space here uses high and low forms, echoing the local humanities and natural characteristics. The concrete space I chose is real plants, flowers, birds, fish and insects. The audience can move through the plants and leave their own texts. Paper stacked on the grid to form a new "memory rainforest", reminding viewers of the historical memory here.
F tea restaurant
This place was originally the location of the tea restaurant operated by uncle 6th. The tea restaurant is a unique food culture in the southern coastal areas of China: wharf workers bring food from all over the world here, combine with Chinese food culture. The decoration style is also the same. The combination of Western-style stained glass and Eastern carved screens is a typical example. After receiving the order to demolish the tea restaurant, uncle 6th set up a grilled fish stall on the street .
The concrete space I chose here is the tea restaurant of uncle 6th. The grid space is divided into two platforms, the upper and lower platforms. The more open platform can be used as a stage for small events and can also be implanted in small catering formats. The text left by the audience surrounds the tea restaurant still records the original spatial form after the old building was demolished.
SUPPER This video work is a summary of my perception of the relationship between people and things, and things and space. Using an event in my life as the subject matter, I try to use the video to show real and perceptible objects rather than conceptual objects in my mind. Video link:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wza4t5Le3AY
REFERENCES Is perception a deception for human perception? What is the relationship between people and objects and space?
I read some of Merleau-Ponty's work on the phenomenology of perception. In his theory he mentions: " Space is only known to us through our bodies, which means that it carries with it various human attributes and is therefore a mixture of the mental and the physical." I have therefore arrived at my perception of space and existence: space is not a homogeneous white box, but a black, thick soup. That is: "Things reside in people, and people reside in things." In the words of Cézanne, "I am committed to painting the halo of things".
The classical philosopher Descartes said "My senses are illusory and unreliable, so I can only rely on my reason." In the classical philosophical system, it was believed that the p re s e n ce o f o b j e c t s we re n o t perceived by our senses, but were conceived by our reason. Similarly, influenced by such philosophical ideas, Classical science sees space as a perfectly homogeneous environment in which objects are spread out in three dimensions.
Where science and the philosophy of science opened the door to the world of the perceived, painting, poetry and p h i lo s o p h y ste p p e d firmly in. After comparing classical painting with modernist painting, I realised that the idea of modern painting is in line with that of modern science: the classical dogma separates and outlines the forms, colours and lines of objects one by one. In Cézanne's work, however, his apples spill over the boundaries of classical dogma; the texture, colour and surrounding space are all encompassed within the apple, and this fullness gives his apples an authenticity.
Fruit, Jug, and a Glass Jean Siméon Chardin c. 1726/1728 In Chardin's paintings there is a clear distinction between objects, and objects, light and shadow are laid out on the canvas in strict accordance with the rules of classical sketching. And this way of looking is not a natural way of seeing; it is a trained, painterly way of seeing.
"APPLE" In the post-relativistic era, scientists began to think that absolute objectivity was an illusory delusion. Relativity tells us that every observation is strictly tied to the position of the observer and is inextricably linked to the observer's situation. "Such a theory leads us to question the dogma that science is absolute and total cognition. We are, in this thesis, doing justice to the variety of human experience, and especially to our perceptual perceptions." Thomas Baldwin (eds) 2002, The world of perception.
The first view is that the separation of properties allows us to study and perceive the material world in a scientific way. Modern science and technology allow us to change certain properties of things easily, we can produce apples that are purple or taste like pears or look like lemons.
Fruit and a Jug on a Table Paul Cézanne about 1890 - 1894 In Cézanne's still life paintings, Cézanne attempts to recreate the way we naturally see things; instead of a 'trained' perspective, Cézanne incorporates the colours, textures, shapes and surroundings of the objects into his portrayal of them. This brings the objects closer to human perception.
"APPLE"
What was once a thing exists in the human mind, if you look at it from the point of view of cognitive objects. It is something that can only be conceived by reason; the world we see is illusory and only our reason can be trusted. The conceptual apples conceived by the intellect cannot be reproduced in the real world.
The second view is that we should not discard the body in the process of perceiving things, because it is the body that we use to explore the world.
I use two diagrams to represent what I understand by things: one that artificially separates the various natures of things and treats the unity of all these natures as a crop in itself. One is the idea that all the properties of things are interpenetrated and that each property we perceive is the thing itself.
The perception of things that I want to present is not what is in our minds, but what is in our bodies and senses. Like the apple in front of us, with its red and yellow colour, its sweet taste and its rounded appearance ...... It is all an apple. To borrow a phrase from Sartre "It is the sourness of the lemon which is yellow, it is the yellow of the lemon which is sour."
CHARACTERS&STORY Inspired by the phenomenology of perception, I made a video work to express my understanding of the world of perception, aiming the camera at everyday objects around me and at an everyday life event: supper. I shifted my perspective from the person to the object, and expressed the event through the object because, phenomenologically speaking, the object is attached to the human body, so the object must be able to reflect the behaviour of the person.

When I get home I defrost the frozen meat, make a pot of rice and cut up some fruit. After that I would start cooking, set up the dishes, put dinner on the table and wait for my girlfriend to come home and have dinner with me. ”

I have attempted to represent the theme of the person residing in the object, so in this video the presence of the object emerges through time, the human body leaves traces on the object, and the states of the object at different points in time and in different spatial locations are merged together. As the phenomenology of perception tells us: every observation is inextricably linked to the situation of the observer.

MUSIC&MONTAGE
Siboney - Xavier Cugat The opening uses a cacophony of sounds, a mix of conversations, footsteps and cars ......
The quivering sound of the sand hammers adds interest to this piece of music.
The drums appear as a high frequency and fast paced sound in this piece of music.
Xavier Cugat is a trained violinist and arranger, he was key to the circulation of a characterful Latin music in American popular music. In this music he uses a superimposition of two rhythmically rich musical samples, sand hammers, and military drums.
Pans - Li Rui In this music, the musicians use the kitchen tools in their homes as instruments, using the specific sound effects of each tool to create a rhythmic composition. Hearing is also a part of our body, and this music shows the sound of things, which is very relevant to the theme I am trying to convey.
The musician introduces the piece with a sharp tapping of chopsticks.
The sound of the chopsticks striking the bowl is the second sound added; the different volumes of liquid in the bowl give a high or low pitch to the strike.
The sound of pots and pans of different materials is distinctive.
THE ARGO This work is an experiment in narrative space in which I put typical cultural symbols from East and West into the framework of a Hollywood film story. With this story, I have designed three spaces based on the three main characters and their story line.

A general national sentiment : to go global
Since China's reform and opening up in the 1980s, the culture of the Western world has been flooding into China through the mass media. In a sense, this is a threat to China's c u l t u r a l s o v e re i g n t y , a n d m a n y Chinese creators have chosen to spectralise Chinese culture in order to gain a place in a world dominated by Western culture. As if it were a display compartment in a Western museum, although this situation is closely related to China's economic and political status, it is not the right way for Chinese culture to go global, so I wanted to express the dilemma we are in through a work. And to try to find where the East meets the West.
T h e co n tex t o f g lo b a l i s a t i o n p rov i d e s a background for the creation of a cosmopolitan cultural space, but on the other hand it also poses a challenge to the preservation of the cultural traditions of each nation, to the maintenance of a plurality of cultural interests and intellectual values. The unbalanced interaction of this current postcolonial picture of the world has given rise to a general national sentiment in the "Third World" countries in a state of globalisation: to go global. The so-called 'world' is in large part the developed Western countries that dominate the world's dominant economic and cultural order, while the so-called 'going' implies an attempt to be accepted and affirmed by the Western-based world economic and cultural order.
The hero with a thousand faces
Inspiration from the film Zhang Yimou, a renowned Chinese director, specialises in telling Chinese vernacular stories.
"Everything that modern visitors gaze at is an ideal reproduction of what they have absorbed and internalised from the various media." This process
which have gained him a certain reputation in the Western world. His works often present a warm and rustic atmosphere, with images of hardworking Chinese people.
So I chose a cruise ship at sea as the space for my design, and designed the audience's experience of the cruise as well as the space for the cruise. In this space, the real environment does not interfere with the viewer's observation, but rather the viewer experiences a reconstructed story with a mixture of cultural symbols. I have named this work The Ship of Argo , a name derived from the story of the Golden Fleece in Greek mythology, the Ship of Argo being a ship full of Greek heroes.
I have been inspired by the internationalisation of Chinese cinema. On the one hand, the internationalisation of Chinese national cinema has developed a series of conventional strategies: the yellow earth, the courtyard, the small bridges and streams, the scenes of Beijing opera, weddings and funerals, etc., the group of characters made up of obstinate women, men who endure humiliation, and arbitrary and cruel elders, the style formed by the composition of images that emphasise spatiality and the co-existence of people and the environment, which has enabled Chinese cinema to acquire a public image and create a Chinese brand. The style formed by the composition of images, which emphasises the coexistence of people and the environment, has enabled Chinese cinema to acquire a public image, creating a Chinese brand.
is similar to the contemporary exposure to different national cultures, where mass media invade people's minds first, so that people are actually reconstructing a culture when they get to know it.

CHARACTERS&STORY Popeye the Sailor Man(American Hero)
Witch mentor(Majestic Cape Sounion)
The famous American comic character, born in the 1930s, is a scrawny sailor who becomes powerful after eating spinach. It is a modern take on the cult of Hercules from human mythology and a humorous take on the expectations of the American people during the depression.
This character is a priest from the Majestic Cape Sounion who plays a role in Greek mythology as an answer to the hero's doubts, a mentor to the protagonist in the story and a protector in the early stages of the protagonist's development.
Loki (master of tricks and deceit)
Threshold Guardian(Cthulhu Mythos)
Loki is an important deity in Norse mythology, often portrayed as a man with a penchant for mischief, and the story of his slaying of Badr, the god of light, had a significant impact on the ending of the twilight of the gods in Norse mythology.
A character from a famous Chinese Ming Dynasty folk tale, the legend goes: she was carrying a wooden chest full of treasures, and after being deceived several times, she chose to sink to the bottom of the sea with the chest, and no one ever knew where it was again.

I was fascinated by the texture left by the chemical reaction between the sea and the metal, and the contrast between the rusted metal and the white stone columns also has a sense of decay, which fits the theme of the siren.

The boxing ring as a whole is a boulder formation floating on the water, which is slightly lower than the audience and has an overall conical shape. Actors enter the stage from a lift on the left and behind the audience is the pool's large diving platform, which is linked to the diving platform during boxing performances.

Cornucopia&The Flying apsaras under the Red Sunset 6
T h e co r n u co p i a a n d t h e Fruits of Corruption are a presentation of Loki's story line in space. I have placed the form of the cornucopia on the edge of the pool, while echoing the form of the Viking ship.

Section 4 T h e m i d d l e s e c t i o n o f t h e dinner room, with its pool and 15m greenhouse, is inspired by the Greek mythology of the daffodil: the story of a young boy who falls in love with himself. It is a metaphor for the relationship between the male and female protagonists.
Flowers and spring are a common symbol of love. Both flowers and spring are fleeting.

The Dunhuang murals have a very strong Buddhist element, using a l a rge num ber of religious motifs in shades of red and green. Cinnabar takes on a fascinating crimson colour after a thousand years.

The general colour palette in the boxing ring is blue and metallic, with a predominance of cool tones. The first day of the cruise focuses on this area: spectators will be treated to a "boxing" match between sirens and sailors. The boxing ring rises slowly from underwater, the seaworn metal glowing a dull green. A large projection screen was set up at the front of the auditorium so that the red shadow of the big diving platform behind the auditorium could be projected onto the screen. The audience could see the actress swaying in the centre of the artificial sun on the screen. The shadow of the red sun is projected above the blue-toned space, creating a cool atmosphere.
In the land of the sirens lies the secret of time ......
The dinner room area is a soft green colour palette, and this area is the most relaxing part of the story. We have decorated the restaurant with plants and flowers so that the audience can forget about the slimy sirens under the cold water. The use of pillars and long staircases create some interesting social environments for the passengers to socialise.
The pool and diving area is dominated by red and white, an area that belongs to Dusky, who represents Eastern culture, and Loki, the god of mischief. Just as Loki is a shape-shifter in Norse mythology. Every weak culture becomes a shape-shifter when it enters a strong cultural system, and is reconstructed by the strong culture. This area is the main area for the second and third day of the cruise, where passengers can swim in the pool during the day and at nightfall the pool turns into a sunken dance floor where people can participate in a party of tomatobashing fun.
Am I not dressed elegantly enough? Tell me how to get there. He betrayed her!
Perhaps we could dance together?
You will die for sure! I had a great time tonight. I hear there's going to be a big party tonight!
Me too. &……%+—*&#@ ! ~……:?
Help! I'm the final winner! That's Loki!
OTHER WORKS Structural tests
Building Lines
We have chosen to join the lines manually, numbering each point and tabulating them t o m a ke s u re t h a t each point is joined to the others.
This is an experiment I did on the structure of a tall building. In this course we learned what kind of structure makes a tall building strong. I used the model to simulate a fishing net-like shell structure. With four thin columns attached to each connection point, the final net structure performed well against l a t e r a l w i n d s a n d lo n g i t u d i n a l pressures. In the completion of this work, I was the team leader for the group work. We used a parametric design approach, taking ten points on each side of the cube and linking the points to form a space, then placing the human form and walking path into the space. The traces of the person were outlined with lines.
OTHER WORKS Furniture & Showroom
Lamps
This work is a showroom design in which 180 pieces of classic furniture from around the world need to be placed in a 1,700 square metre exhibition hall. The spaces correspond to the elements of the Petri dish, the Buddhist niche and the carousel. These pieces of furniture are presented to the viewer as hanging, rotating, etc.
This piece is a small experiment in the way the luminaire opens and closes, and I have combined the opening and closing of the luminaire with the luminous area of the luminaire. The opening and the closing are adjusting the light level and changing the shape of the luminaire.
Meizhou River Renovation
Wings for Ears In this course I try to give choice to the ear, which is always passively receiving sound. So I use a device that can be opened and closed manually to allow the ear to choose the sounds it hears. Using this small device as inspiration, I designed a small space in which the ear is the main organ of the experience.
This work is a renovation project along the Meizhou River in Guangdong Province. I have taken the local culture's view of all things spiritual as my inspiration and used the characteristic local plant: the banyan tree as the object of the renovation. Its root system and habitat were analysed. The result is a plan for the transformation of the river.
