The Men ’ s Varsity Fencing Team approached the winter 2022–23 season as a rebuilding year. A number of senior starters had graduated, the team was predominately underclassman, and they were on their third coach in three years. In spite of these obstacles, at the end of the season the team qualified for the Nassau County team quarterfinals. Ultimately, they placed 3rd in Nassau County for the season. The team was led by the captains for épée, seniors Louis Rivera and Michael Siragusa, foil senior Eric Hartmann and sophomore Trey Plastaras, and saber senior Pat Bohn. In addition to the team third place finish, individual honors were attained by some of the young men.

Pat Bohn received an invitation to participate in the Nassau County Individual Championship finishing 10th. He was also awarded the 2022–23 Most Improved Fencer at the Garden City High School Boys Athletic Awards (BAA) ceremony.

Eric Hartmann was named to the All County Fencing Team Honorable Mention based on his season ’ s win percentage. He also was invited to participate in the Nassau Individual Championships where he placed 11th. At the high school BAA awards ceremony he was presented with the 2022–23 Coach ’ s Award.

Trey Plastaras had an incredible, undefeated high school season, 29-0 and was named to the All Long Island Team and received All County First Team honors. He too fenced in the Individual Championships where he finished 4th. When the high school season concluded, Trey traveled to Denver Colorado to fence in the Junior Olympics.

Louis Rivera received All County Second Team honors at the conclusion of the season and an invite to the Individual Championships where he finished 11th. Louis was the recipient of the 2022–23 Outstanding Fencer Award at the BAA ceremony. He also participated in the Junior Olympics in Colorado.

Matteo Schettino was selected to fence in the Nassau Individual competition and finished 6th.
