Citron re-elected president of BoE

Jill Citron was re-elected Jericho School Board president, and Board member Divya Balachandar was elected vice president at the monthly board meeting July 6.
Balachandar had been nominated for the board pres- idency by fellow member Sam Perlman but declined the nomination saying the work of the presidency would be too time-consuming for her. She said however the vice presidency would not conflict with her time schedule.
Both Citron and Balachandar won the election by a 3 to 2 vote.
In another matter, the Board voted to appoint Ingerman Smith LLP to serve as attorney for the Jericho School District for the 2023–2024 school year, over the objection of Board member Perlman that the district issue an RFP to consider other law firms to represent the district.

Following the oath of office administered by District Clerk Francine Benjamin, Cheng took her seat to lead the rest of the July 6 meeting.
In her welcoming remarks as new Board of Education president, Cheng stated “I want to thank everyone for entrusting me in this position. It is a great honor and I look forward to working with everyone. This is a great team, and we have a lot of great work to look forward to.”
