Syosset school board trustee upon her successful election in May of 2021. With Park’s election, Syosset became one of few Long Island school districts to have two Asian American trustees on its board of education concurrently.

Cheng and her husband Eugene have three children, all young adults who attended each level in the Syosset Central School District.

At the age of 13 Carol Cheng arrived in Queens as a first-generation Taiwanese immigrant, and she studied very hard while taking ESL classes as a teenager new to America. But she thrived in her education and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in Applied Math and Statistics and Economics from Stony Brook University in just three years, followed by her master’s in Applied Math and Statistics. Her professional qualifications and career experience include positions at Citigroup and PricewaterhouseCoopers, and as an Advisory Board member to Stony Brook University & Hospital Community Relations Office, and a board member and counselor at Fa-Yi Chong-De New York Culture and Education Center; a Chinese non-profit which focuses on promoting family values and education through Chinese culture and traditions.

Prior to her first term on the Board of Education Cheng served the community as vice president of the Chinese American Association of Syosset (CAAS). At the start of her bid for election to the school board, in March of 2017 Cheng helped organize Syosset’s first-ever “Bilingual Town Hall” meeting in the South Woods Middle School auditorium, featuring Q & A with Superintendent of Schools Dr. Thomas Rogers.

In similar fashion to Cheng’s election as board president, Brian Grieco was elected to be the 2023-2024 Syosset Central District’s school board vice president. He received five supporting votes to defeat the 2022-23 board vice president Lisa Coscia, who was renominated to the VP role.

Once the two nominations for Syosset Board of Education president were port the event, downtown Oyster Bay will also host a street fair, hosted in partnership with the Oyster Bay Main Street Association and Oyster BayEast Norwich Chamber of Commerce –as local businesses will line the streets with food, live music and fun activities for families.

“By putting two feet forward and bicycling in this event, our community plays an important role in raising charitable funds to advance cancer research and treatment,” said Councilman Labriola. “I look forward to participating in the event myself and hope to see all our residents there on July 22nd!”
