Be Still and Know

1/25/13 18:18:32 a1/p1 Psalms 46:10 reads as follows; “Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.” But what does it mean? Is it truly one of those verses that is self-explanatory? Perhaps it is self-explanatory. However, I do believe that this verse needs a little more explaining before we can fully grasp its meaning. So using only three key words let us take a look at this fine piece of God’s handwriting. What are those key words? They are as follows; 1. Still 2. Know 3. God The first word is still. So what does this mean? It comes from the Hebrew word abated hpr Raphah (raw-faw') which means to sink down or drop, relax or to abate or withdraw. So now ask yourself this question; why would God want any person to relax or withdraw from something? I think it perhaps goes back to Psalms chaper one where it says “But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night..” And in order for a person to meditate, or ponder, on God’s word one needs to be in a position where his or her body is in a relaxed state of movement. Makes logical sense to me. So if you please we have a person doing what we would says as “chillin like Bob Dylan.” Maybe even with a nice cold drink of lemonade or soda on ones back porch,, if you have one that is.

The next word is know; and regretfully this word is now as easy to define or is it? Let us take a look. The word is another Hebrew origin acknowledge [dy Yada` (yaw-dah'). Which means; “to know, learn to know” and “to know by experience” I think I like this because in order to know God I believe you would need to know about Him like the saints of old like Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, who are considered great men of faith as is Moses, Noah and countless others. Not only are these great men of faith but of courage and valor. Willing to stand against any enemy at all costs even when all odds were against them. The last key word here is God. It may seem like such as easy word to understand. But to understand it you would need to understand this; in the days of old the name of God was so revered that they would only use the first letter and last letter thus you could find the word G_d. This is why they would refer to Him for things He had done such as if He gave peace He was known as ElShalom. However, in this scripture we see God in a new different light as 'elohiym (el-o-heem') or the God who judges and or rules.

I t is good to know God in other aspects of ones life such as being your supplier or healer. Am not saying otherwise. What I am saying is this. In order to understand who God is in your personal life, and if you have accepted Jesus as Lord of your life then I believe you need to understand the following; This very God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob is and can not be simply your Copilot! If you are making God as your Co-pilot then you are doing the following; First you are saying that you are lord over your life and that God does not know what He is doing. Thus you have or are placing God in second place. When you fly the friendly skies in a commercial plane you would not want some rookie to be in charge, god forbid, as they have the least of experience. Instead you would want the one that has the most airtime and experience just like the Miracle in the Bronx last year. That pilot had the knowledge, experience and many hours of light time and knew exactly what to do. The end result was not only were hundreds of lives on the plane were save but many on the ground as well. Thus you need the Pilot of Pilots in your life. Not just when it feels good or right but every moment of your day.

Perhaps, just perhaps, you have tried to run the show by yourself and nothing seems to run right. Perhaps, just perhaps you are even trying to play a game with others; I can tell you it this the time fore games is over. You might be able to fool a few friends, those in authority or those in the very house of God. However, the very one your are fooling is yourself. You my dear friend can never in your life run away from God or even fool Him. Furthermore God can not simply be the Co-pilot in your life. You will some day have to give up the helm to Him. So my question for you this very hour is this; Is today the day you quit being in control and let God be God in your life as did the very saints of old? For the scripture truly says that today is the accepted day of salvation. So choose you this day whom you will serve who you want to be the pilot of your life. You see God is not one big bad dude out to get you, God forbid this God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob is as the writer of Ephesians says in chapter two verses four and five: “But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) See this very God of mercy and grace did not come to earth to condemn up as it says in John 3:17 “For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.” Instead, God came in the flesh so that we can have life and life more abundantly. So beloved whom will you choose this day? Will it be life eternal? Or will it be death? The choice is yours and yours alone.
