TopRydeCity | Civic Center | Competiton â„– 343 From our point of view, the existing center of the device is not perfect: Parts of the city are separated by roads that are difficult to cross, no urban place of meetings and assemblies, there is no significant object, to serve as a symbolic centre of city and community. A special feature of our project is its ability to tie together the disparate parts of the city, to awaken the social life of people through attractive and accessible common areas, involving the visitor to interact. Our project addresses these issues: In place of the existing building of the city council and the surrounding area we offer to place a complex of buildings, linked by a common envelope. Buildings (civic center, office building and residential building) are placed along the site boundaries, and form the inner area. City Hall and community center occupies the southern part. The narrow office building is located along the eastern section of the site border. It protects the area from Devlin street traffic noise. The offices for rental in this building have separate entrances from the terraces, easily accessible from the plaza and from Top Ryde City Shopping Centre. The residential building is located in the north-western section of the border on Blaxland road and has an internal connection to civic center building. Under the residential building is an outdoor parking. The theater is located below the central plaza, it has an entrance from the square, and a separate cargo entrance. The bus stop is located in the north-eastern part of the plot. Underground parking is located under the buildings of the City Council, theater and office building and can accommodate 280 vehicles. Open spaces are represented by: - A chain of squares connected by pedestrian street - Green roof - New overground passage through Devlin street, creating a second promenade Area above the street. Transportation: Parallel to Devlin street a pedestrian street runs through the whole territory. Pedestrians can also use the overpass through Devlin street. Pedestrian street is complemented by bike path and bike parking spaces. City Hall and the theater also have two additional parking spaces. Electric power supply The building is equipped with solar panels, with average output up to 300 kw/h Solar panel array area = 3,000 sq m. Ventilation The building of the City Council and the office building are served by a passive ventilation system that operates on the principle of the solar chimney. Ventilation intake cameras are located on the former site of parking in the south-western part. The intake air is cooled by heat exchanger, where the working fluid is water. Air flow rate is adjusted automatically by mechanized shutters in air ducts. Theatre and underground parking are served by independent ventilation systems with mechanical drive. The residential building has a cross-ventilation and solar chimney. Water supply Water heating is provided by solar collectors and gas heater. The sedimentary water is collected from the roof, then filtered and stored on basement level. The sedimentary water is used to irrigate the plants and flush toilets. Greenery Planting area increased through the use of a landscaped roof. Vegetation types: lawn and grass field.
