A TOUCH OF RED In China, nearly 200 years before Christ, the term LIULI is included every light and bright material, similar to precious stone. This term was covering either glass as a material but also an emotional essence linked to the creation natural order. A kind of magic and sensible charge. Regarding the ancient Chinese manuscripts, the Liuli definition has evolved a lot with time. The sensible was erased for the benefit of the only glass/material reading. In a way, its meaning became impoverished. To revive the lost Art of Chinese Liuli, esteemed Taiwanese film director Chang Yi founded LIULIGONGFANG with the artist Loretta H. Yang. Chang Yi, called “Father of the Asia Studio Glass Movement” by the New York Times, combines the Studio Glass art with the ancient Chinese Liuli tradition. Thanks to his efforts, the LIULIGONGFANG is the foremost advocate of this art, supporting a unique knowledge and the capacity of wonder. Chang Yi creates works of art that are not unlike poems; each piece is tinged with complex human emotion. Not only is the A Touch of Red collection a reflection of Chang’s philosophy toward life, it presents an answer to LIULI art and Eastern philosophy. From a cultural position, he composes a symphony using elements of traditional Chinese painting and LIULI air bubbles. This is a presentation that never before existed in the domain of LIULI art. In A Touch of Red, Chang takes these painterly elements and executes them in LIULI. His work shines the light on nature and the layered brushwork of Song painters. Clouds, fog and waves meet and part and flow in the space between coming and going, between presence and absence, between abstract and representational.
