The aim of this project is to use Modern Naturalism made Convoys Wharf from an enclosed brownfield change into an eco-waterfront park which combined ecology, living and production parts. Applying planting design and activity spaces collocate design an alive riverside leisure area. Among these were the creation of a unique and distinctive new district for South-east London; this design will improved local transport connections; make green space become a green net; rebuild children playground and wetland habitats to enhanced local eco atmosphere, alter people lifestyle which make visitors have more chance close to nature and learn more history.

CIRCULATION ANALYSIS

BUIILDING FUNCTIONG STRATEGY

There 3 bus stations, 1 train station and 1 river bus surround site. Pedestrian and Cyclist could access from Prince St,Watergate St and Evelyn St.

Fluent circulation from 3 entrance to the heart of siteOlympia Building, waterfront path connect 2 outside parks and river side park.

FUNCTION ANALYSIS

FUNCTION ANALYSIS

There are residential area, parks, working area, industry area, education are surround the site.

Use vetegetation and spatial stragegy create different function space for diversity group of people. Use groves, avenue, cour tyard, wetland, new naturalism planting design provide various experiences for user.

DESIGN CONCEPT

LOCAL RESIDENTS ANALYSIS

Living- Adding riverside pedestrian, playground, leisure area, space for activities/ sports. Creating a place "Usercentered design".Create space by human behavior, in the meantime, space control people activities. Ecology- Increasing botanical garden, wildlife habitat, wetland, rain garden.Build a harmony atmosphere between human development and natural. Production- Creating more community kitchen gardens, let residents enjoy in self-sufficiency life style, meantime, it could communication to each other increasing ralationship of others. Most impoatant, grow fruit and tree will attract more wildlife come this area, which improve local bio-diversity.

From survey and analysis we could know Deptford is a diversity place, people who live here has big gap. Provide harmonious activity space for the community which consists of old and young, diversity ethnic group, wealthy and poor was very important for this design.

ISSUE OF SITE

ON SITE ACTIVITY

1. Do not have good access, surrounding are 3-5 metres wall and just one entrance of site. 2. Lack of maintain heritage, historical building. 3. Waterfront do not have point to attract people come. 4. Lack of wildlife and vegetation, not ecology at all.

DESIGN STRATEGY 1. High buildings obstruct people’s view to see the riverside, so I change it to lower building. And I organize most of building behind to give more waterfront space for people’s activities. 2 car parking eco building located near to entrances. 2. To solve the access problem, I add 2 entrances 3. Use vegetation and spatial strategy create different function space for diversity group of people. Tree array, groves, avenue, courtyard, wetland, new naturalism planting design provide various experiences for user.

Some house have their own private garden, people often grow vegetables and follwers in it. Also I see a big kitchen garden near residential area.

Children near by will use these playground at weekend or after school.

It is easy to see mother with their baby walking near site.

People go to market and buy food and daily products.

In my design, I want create this site to be a more sustainable place, which combine living, ecology and production together. Make convoys wharf like a modern naturalism landscape, put a community into a park. The brief of my concept is much more to do in front of Olympia building and Waterfront Park.

A' People from entrances go along with avenue will go to the heart of site ,

Olympia building, this house is a unique cast-iron building constructed in the 1840s, which to be used as a shipyard. Royal ship from River Thames into dockyard basin then fix in Olympia building. The roof of this building ver y modern in nowadays. Olympia building will be preserved and refurbished as part of the redevelopment of the site. In the center of building is exhibition area, and supporting commercial area on both side.

In front of building, there is a sunken square, offer a semi-open space for people to seat, in the center of seating area is 10 meters multiply 10 meters flat groundfor people to show. The fountain will open regularly, this is a good time children play water, their parents could watch them on the steps. Next, it is a big open space, a basin, half meter depth of it,Stainless steel

enclosure around the basin, Rectangle geometry reflects sky and hints at a shallow depth. Basin water brim so high as to envelop the visitor. Multi-function Shallow Pond- which can be drained for large events and festivals. Summer could be place people could easily close water and winter could be a skating place. There are wildflower meadow hill and a sensual grassy landform wraps around the water feature made the main axis like a Valley creates a natural theatre.

Walk along the route to the riverside. Sloping water feature, beside are polished concrete steps. This space is a semi-open space which having oriented guide people came platform. Ladder total length of 30 meters, one meter spacing between each step, so that people can sitting there for picnic and playing water. The walls are brick and concrete as it was used in history. Pavement and wall using a different gray, so that the whole site more unified and modern. Then is Riverside platform, combine with flower meadow make people feel the modern naturalism by the riverside. This platform on the edge of the River Thames, in London rarely have modern space close River Thames combine with nature. I’d like people to feel river wave continue to platform even in whole design site.

NEW NATURALISM PLANTING DESIGN SHEFFIELD/UK PLANTING DESIGN OF ARTS TOWER INDIVIDUAL WORK INTRODUCTION New naturalism planting design have relatively low maintenance costs, be as sustainable as possible, taxonomically diverse, demonstrate marked seasonal change, and suppor t as much wildlife as possible. Concept - Melting Snow Arts tower looks like a gaint ice pillar, cold and hard. So in my concept, inspired by the melting snow, I want to create a place to show people warm and soft feeling which symbolise the coming spring and rebirthing lifes. Aims 1.Localised wind reduction to make the space more habitable. 2.Create an attractive place to walk, relax and enjoy by establishing a delightful enviroment with herbfield, shrubland and woodland.

THE GROVES CAMPUS DESIGN SHEFFIELD/UK INTEGRATED LANDSCAPE DESIGN GROUP WORK INTRODUCTION The University of Sheffield central ‘campus’ is part of the City of Sheffield but also is potentially constituted as the realm of a distinguished academic institution. However, after many years of neglect due to a lack of clear strategy and understanding of the (potential of) landscape and limited political and economic commitment, the campus urban public realm is in ver y poor health: culturally and ecologically, and is in urgent need of renewal. The challenge of this integrated project is to design a section of the city campus and public realm to meet both the needs and aspirations of the University and its community, and at the same time to contribute significantly to the city’s local populations including residents.

SOCIALLY RESTORATIVE PROJECT LEEDS/UK URBAN LANDSCAPE DESIGN GROUP WORK INTRODUCTION This urban landscape design project aims to explore part of Leeds city undergoing intensive regeneration and develop design solutions that contribute to this ongoing process. This project approached this from human perspective and asked how processes of regeneration and design can bring about urban places capable of sustaining fulfilled human lives. This project is based on the theroy of "Experiential Landscape" and "Socially Restorative Urbanism" of Kevin Thwaites.
