Lebanon: refugee children at camp
Amina’s story (Lebanon – children’s refugee camp) Amina is a 12-year old girl who has been living in Lebanon for the past several years. She and her family were forced to leave their homes due to the bloody civil war in Syria. Leaving everything behind, they walked on foot over the mountain range that separates the two countries. They now lead a very simple life. It is a struggle for refugees to find work and educational opportunities as they do not have the same rights as Lebanese citizens. Since Amina has started attending the refugee kids’ camps, the coordinators have noticed that she takes a leadership role among the younger children. She encourages them to participate in songs and programs and often helps lead worship. She has grown into a role model among the kids and is gaining confidence in herself. Directors hope that what Amina has gained through her camp experience will enable her to grow as a leader within her home community.
