February is the most anticipated month for lovers to show how much love they have for each other. In this edition we bring you a luxury interviewee: Fernando Osorio. He has penned some of the most beautiful compositions dedicated to feeling, sung by artists of international fame. We are proud to have him as a resident of Doral. This Doralian singer- composer can be found walking quietly through the city and sharing his charisma with his fans. Another gem that we have in Doral is Caro Vasquez. This woman turned her accessory design hobby into what is now a recognized brand, with beautiful and elegant garments: Caro Vasquez Accessories.

aro Vasquez started creating her own necklaces as a hobby. Soon after, she began studying jewelry design at the prestigious Alexis de la Sierra Goldsmith’s School in Caracas. One day she received an employment proposal from the Iskia bridal shop to showcase her accessories. She stayed there for 3 years until in 2009 she moved to the United States with her family. She returned to her jewelry design studies, this time at the Entre Piedras School in Doral where she not only perfected her techniques but also taught other people. In 2018 she decided to unleash her passion and create her own brand: Caro Vazquez Accessories.

Un día recibió una propuesta laboral de la tienda de novias Iskia para exhibir sus accesorios. Ahí estuvo durante 3 años hasta que en 2009 emigró a Estados Unidos con su familia. Retomó sus estudios de diseño de joyas, esta vez en la escuela Entre Piedras en Doral donde no solo perfeccionó técnicas sino que además, enseñó a otras personas. The traffic signal, a requirement of the Landmark South Development, at NW 107 Ave. and NW 60 St. will be on-line by the end of February. The City is also in works to add a traffic signal on NW 109 Ave. and Doral Boulevard. Remember that all the traffic signals in Doral are owned and maintained by Miami- Dade County. nown throughout the world for being the author of songs that have made us laugh, cry, fall in love, forgive, and even live, Doral proudly welcomes this Colombian born, Venezuelan at heart.

“Thursdays are for remembering.” That’s what Fernando’s #tbt is called to share anecdotes of his songs with his followers. “I am very fortunate to be able to share these stories of my life and my career.” In his #tbt he receives thousands of comments from all over the world, however, there were two that caught his attention. The first was a Russian girl who was learning Spanish and used his music to practice the language. Another case was that of a Chilean artist who tattooed the phrase “Ríe, llora” (Laugh, cry), from the song by Celia Cruz, on one of his arms. Thanks to that phrase and that song, this artist regained the desire to get ahead after living through a very delicate situation.

Hall of Fame of Latin Composers With almost 40 years of artistic career, Fernando Osorio became part of the Hall of Fame of Latin Composers last year. “Getting recognition of this kind is the result of a long journey that immortalizes my work, I have enjoyed it and I appreciate it very much, I continue forward and I still can’t believe it.”

Many call you master, do you consider yourself as such? “We are all masters and we are in this journey of life that touches us and we coincide at times. Yes, I consider myself a master but not because I believe myself to be more than others, but because I know that I am a master, just like you, children, or anyone else, we all teach something, when they call me that, I take it as a compliment, a caress.”

What is your masterpiece? “I do not know if I already wrote it but for me every song has taken me to another, and to another, and to another, and so on. So each one, in its own way, has been important. Perhaps some have stood out more than others and reached more people, such as “Solo con un beso” (With just a kiss), “Sé mi aire” (Be my air), “La negra tiene tumbao” (The negra has tumbao), “Vivir” (to Live), “Estando junto a ti” (Being beside you), are songs that have been emblematic and are part of my repertoire to remember.” Fernando considers his songs are like his children because they arrive through him, he brought them to the world and each one of them finds its own way and they become important personalities. Those that stand out, do it even more than the author, that’s why he says that his songs are more famous than him. “Thank God for allowing me to bring you to this plane.” Last year, when Pope Francis visited Colombia and walked the red carpet, singersongwriter Fonseca sang the song “Puede Ser” (It can be) which he had written with Fernando. onocido en el mundo entero por ser el autor de canciones que nos han hecho reír, llorar, enamorarnos, olvidar y hasta vivir, Doral acoge con orgullo a este colombiano de nacimiento y venezolano de corazón.

“Los jueves son para recordar” Así se llama el #tbt de Fernando para compartir anécdotas de sus canciones con sus seguidores. “Soy muy afortunado de poder compartir estas historias de mi vida y mi carrera”. De sus #tbt recibe miles de comentarios de todas partes del mundo, sin embargo, hubo dos que llamaron su atención. El primero fue de una chica rusa que estaba aprendiendo español y utilizaba su música para practicar el idioma. Otro caso fue de un artista chileno que se tatuó la frase “Ríe, llora”, de la canción de Celia Cruz, en uno de sus brazos. Gracias a esa frase y esa canción, a este artista le regresaron las ganas de salir adelante tras vivir una situación muy delicada.

Salón de la Fama de Compositores Latinos Con casi 40 años de trayectoria artística, Fernando Osorio pasó a formar parte del Salón de la Fama de Compositores Latinos el año pasado. “Que te den un reconocimiento de este tipo es el resultado de un trayecto largo que inmortaliza mi trabajo. Lo he disfrutado y lo aprecio mucho. Sigo adelante y sin creerlo todavía”.

Muchos te llaman maestro, ¿te consideras como tal? “Todos somos maestros y nos encontramos en este trayecto de vida que nos toca y coincidimos por momentos. Sí me considero un maestro pero no porque me crea más que los demás sino porque sé que soy un maestro, así como lo eres tú, los niños y cualquier persona. Todos enseñamos algo. Cuando me llaman así lo siento como un halago, una caricia”.

¿Cuál es tu pieza maestra? No sé si ya la escribí pero para mí cada canción me ha llevado a otra y a otra y a otra y así. De manera que cada una, a su manera, ha sido importante. Quizás algunas hayan destacado más y hayan llegado más a la gente, como “Solo con un beso”, “Sé mi aire”, “La negra tiene tumbao”, “Vivir”, “Estando junto a ti”, son canciones que han sido emblemáticas y forman parte de mi repertorio para recordar. Fernando considera que sus canciones son como sus hijos porque a través de él llegaron, las trajo al mundo y cada una de ellas va tomando su camino y se convierten en personalidades importantes. Las que destacan, lo hacen incluso más que el mismo autor por eso dice que sus canciones son más famosas que él. “Gracias a Dios por permitirme traerlas a este plano”. El año pasado, cuando el Papa Francisco visitó Colombia y paseaba por la alfombra roja, Fonseca le cantó la canción “Puede ser” que había escrito junto a Fernando.

fter the tragedy at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, many cities began to design a mobilization plan in case of emergencies like these, however, since its incorporation in 2008, Doral already had this plan designed. The only difference is that before there was an agent who rotated in turn in three schools and now there is a fixed officer from early in the morning until the last student leaves in the afternoon. He knows every corner, the teachers, even parents and students. Doral has 15 schools, 9 charters and privates and 6 publics. All the plans of the educational centers were updated and uploaded to the computers of all the police officers. In case of an emergency, they can virtually consult that map and obtain the necessary information. To protect the privacy of students, no officer of the Doral Police Department (DPD) School Unit has body worn cameras. What there is in schools is a red code. When this alert is activated, all the entrances and exits are automatically blocked, no one can get in or out. DPD rehearses strategies and makes presentations to teachers and principals on how to act in case of a shooting or a fire monthly. La única diferencia es que antes había un agente que se rotaba por turnos en tres escuelas y ahora hay un oficial fijo desde temprano en la mañana hasta que se va el último estudiante en la tarde. M-DCPS Announces Outstanding Graduation Rates

M-DCPS anuncia tasas sobresalientes de graduación

iami-Dade County Public Schools’ (M-DCPS) graduation rose once again to reach an all-time high of 85.4 percent for the 2017-2018 academic year, a 4.7 percentage point increase for the prior year. This rate marks the highest graduation rate M-DCPS has achieved since the Florida Department of Education began tracking graduation statistics. If charter schools are removed from the calculation, the graduation in schools managed by the District is an outstanding 89 percent. The City of Doral’s Ronald W. Reagan/Doral High School was amongst the top performing schools with a 93.1 percent graduation rate – well above the District average.

Valentine’s Day and Alcohol San Valentín y el alcohol Valentine’s Day is a special occasion to have a drink with your partner, but my recommendation is, beware of alcohol! I do not mean to stop you from celebrating but to measure your alcohol intake well. Alcohol in excess produces three negative aspects in our body: 1- It favors the retention of liquid. 2- Provides empty calories. 3- Prevents you from oxidizing fat: the liver can not metabolize alcohol and oxidize (burn) fat at the same time, because it focuses its work on detoxifying the body of the alcohol and loses the ability to reserve carbohydrates as glycogen, then it is very likely that the foods that accompanies alcohol will accumulate as fat. In any case, if you decide to drink alcohol try to choose the best possible. Avoid drinks that are mixed with sugar, for example, cocktails, drinks based on creams or milk, and drink wine, vodka, gin and sparkling wines instead. Despite continuing to be alcohol, you will save calories and the impact on insulin secretion will be less.

El día de San Valentín es una ocasión especial para tomar alguna bebida con tu pareja, pero mi recomendación es, ¡cuidado con el alcohol! No me refiero a dejar de celebrar sino a medir muy bien cuánto tomarás. El alcohol en exceso produce tres aspectos negativos en nuestro cuerpo: 1- Favorece la retención de líquido.

En todo caso, si decidiste tomar alcohol trata de escoger el mejor posible. Evita los tragos que tienen otras bebidas con azúcar, por ejemplo, cocteles, tragos a base de cremas o leche y trata de elegir vino, vodka, ginebra y espumantes. A pesar de seguir siendo alcohol, ahorrarás calorías y el impacto en la secreción de insulina será menor. Mi última recomendación: si vas a tomar, cuida muy bien lo que comes, el peor error es abusar de la comida y del alcohol el mismo día.

1. Preheat the oven to 450 ° F. 2. Grease and flourish ramekins. 3. PREPARACIÓN 1. Precalentar el horno a 450 °F. 2. Engrasar y enharinar los ramekins. 3. Picar el chocolate en pedazos pequeños y llevar a baño de María con la mantequilla en cubos hasta que derritan y sea una mezcla uniforme. 4. Mientras, batir con el globo a velocidad media-alta los huevos y las yemas hasta lograr una mezcla pálida y cremosa que triplique su volumen. Incorporar el azúcar y la vainilla. 5. A velocidad baja añadir lentamente el chocolate y, por último, la harina. 6. Dividir la mezcla entre los ramekins llenando a ¾ de su capacidad. 7. Llevar al horno por 8-10 minutos o hasta que la superficie esté firme. Retirar del horno y dejar reposar por 5 minutos antes de servir. 8. Puedes preparar con anticipación, reservar en la nevera y sacar 10 minutos antes de llevar al horno.
