LIVERPOOL lettings agency Belvoir has come up with a new idea to ensure people can always keep up to date with property news. The company, which has an office in West Derby Village as well as Liverpool City centre, has launched an iPhone application that allows users to call upon the agency wherever they are. The free application, available to download now from the iTunes store, detects the user’s location, shows available properties in that area and pinpoints the location of the property on a map. Users can view photos of the properties, read descriptions, and create a shortlist of favourites to revisit at a later time. Other features of the application are: an ‘email to a friend’ option, ‘about us’ page and contact details of the nearest Belvoir office. Adam Rastall of Belvoir West Derby Village explains how the app benefits both tenants and landlords: “Over the past few years there has been a shift in how tenants search for properties as much of the research is now done online. “I often hear people complaining they just don’t have time to look for a property which is why this app is so great. It allows tenants to look at properties on the move and act fast if they see something they like. It’s an exciting development for landlords as it is yet another way Belvoir can market their property to potential tenants. It also proves we are adapting to the needs of the market and can utilise the latest technology to do so.”

A NEW licence aimed at protecting home buyers and sellers has been launched by the National Association of Estate Agents (NAEA) at the House of Commons. Housing minister Grant Shapps has hailed the new licence as a “symbolic moment” for the industry and expects it to inject greater confidence and movement into the market. At present there are no formal industry regulations in place, giving anyone the freedom to start their own estate agency regardless of his or her qualifications or market experience and knowledge. Regulatory bodies do exist, however membership is optional and comes at price – which some agents choose to avoid. The new license will help protect consumers from the industry’s cowboys by enabling them to identify professional, regulated estate agents committed to operating within stringent codes of conduct and delivering a service that, at very least, meets the recommended minimum

industry standards. Independent estate agency chain Sutton Kersh have been members of the NAEA for a number of years. COSMOPOLITAN Housing Association has been granted planning permission to redevelop a former old people’s home in Holly Road, Kensington. The redevelopment will be in partnership with L’Arche, a Christian based support provider. Plans, drawings and a 3D scale model of plans for the grade II derelict listed building went on show this week at the L’Arche Liverpool head office on Lockerby Road, directly opposite the development site. Work begins on the building – which has been empty for five years – in January. Wellcare Construction will convert the property into supported living units for up to nine adults with learning and physical disabilities. Day to day support will be provided by L’Arche Liverpool, with Cosmopolitan managing the property. The £1.3m project is being delivered without grant subsidy and will take around
12 months. Angela Dodson, Supported Living Programme Manager for Cosmopolitan Housing Association, says: “Cosmopolitan are very excited about this project. It has taken a while to become a reality but through continued partnership working with L’Arche, Liverpool City Council, Hardcastle & Hogarth and Wellcare Construction, we can now bring this building back to life and deliver quality housing for vulnerable people.” Ron Fuller at L’Arche Liverpool, adds: “The next 12 months are going to be exciting times in seeing the building development take place, as well as the work involved in the detailed process of placing residents into the house and flats.” Wellcare Construction and consultant surveyors Hardcastle and Hogarth are working closely with Cosmopolitan Housing Association on the project.

Terry Kilkerry aka Terry Titter Where was the family home you grew up in and what was it like? I grew up in a four bedroom council house opposite Belle Vale park in Liverpool 25 with two older brothers and a sister. My bedroom window faced the park so it was lovely to see the seasons change throughout the year. It had a tennis court on it in the 70s and even now the sound of people playing tennis reminds me of the family and summer! What is your clearest memory of the house? My clearest memory is the garden. It was my mum's pride and joy, and still is! We had a huge apple tree that attracted all kinds of birds. The kitchen backed onto the garden and was the heart of the house. Where was the first house you bought yourself and how much did it cost? I’ve never bought, I’ve always rented. Working in theatre and comedy I travel around a lot and can be away, sometimes, for months at a time on a tour, so renting works better for me. What made you rent your first house? I have rented my current home for over 10 years now, and it’s a perfect bachelor pad! It’s a cosy one bedroom place on one level. I love that I can cook and talk to friends or watch telly at the same time! The best thing I did was get the same colour carpet throughout which makes it feel more sprawling than it actually is! What’s the most important feature you would look for if you bought a house? If I were to buy I think the priority for me would always be location. I'm quite a pipe and slippers man indoors and love my privacy and comforts. So a number one for me when considering buying would always be a quiet neighbourhood away from noisy traffic etc.. Are you a DIY trier or do you leave it to the experts? I'm a DIY trier! Painting, fixtures, fittings etc, often it can be massively cheaper than calling in an expert and much more personal. I do know my limits though. Anything potentially dodgy I always get an expert in for peace of mind. What’s the one thing you love most about your current house? The one thing I love about where I am now is that it’s five minutes walk from the city centre so I'm walking distance to theatres and comedy clubs, which means getting home is a doddle. ◆ Terry Kilkelly is at the Unity theatre from December 13 to 18, with his comedy Christmas Caper.

● GUTTERING protects your home’s exterior walls from rain by channelling it from the roof to a drain in the ground via the horizontal gutter and vertical downpipes. If the guttering becomes damaged or blocked, it may put your home at risk from water penetration and damp. Make sure you check it regularly – especially in autumn when leaves are falling from the trees. ● Checking and repairing guttering usually involves working on a ladder, but this can, of course, be dangerous. Only go up the ladder if you feel safe doing so, and always take full safety precautions. UST under seven miles from Liverpool city centre, Woolton has a lot to offer residents, and the pretty suburb is one of the city’s most sought-after places in which to live.
