Leanne Robson and above on a modelling shoot

SHE’S come a long way since she was chosen as Face of the ECHO this time last year. Now Leanne Robson is preparing to hand over her crown to the 2010 winner. The last 12 months have seen her transformed from a mum of two from Huyton to a model who can more than hold her own infront of the lens. “This year has given me so much confidence. I’ve had an amazing time and it’s been a fantastic experience,!” she says. “Now I feel I want to take what I’ve learned forward and try to continue with a career in front of a lens.” So, with a clutch of fashion shoots under her belt, we thought we’d take a look back at some of the highs of Leanne’s career as Face of the ECHO.

Clothes t the new IT’S all change on the high street with the autumn season most definitely underway. We asked personal and celebrity stylist Martine Alexander to take us through one of the newest labels to arrive in Liverpool One and give us her hot wardrobe picks

I

Grey Herve Leger style dress, £95; shoes, stylists’s own.

Smudge layered cami, £79 jeans, £39; shoes Carvella, £150.

Nude and black embellished detail dress, £89; high waisted leggings, £35; shoes, Carvella, £130.

T only launched last October but already Mint Velvet is gathering devotees. The label’s in-house design team combines stylish basics with bespoke prints, individual detailing and refined textures and has launched co-ordinated capsule ranges that have caught the eye of fashion editors of a lot of the glossies. And now it’s arrived at John Lewis in Liverpool One. “It’s feminine but with quirky elements; a bit like a grown up All Saints,” explains Martine. “It’s very versatile too and lends itself to layering. I dressed a lot of clients in the label’s spring/summer collection and the autumn range doesn’t disappoint.” Her must-have’s include: ● High waisted leggings. “The slight sheen on the leggings means they can be dressed up for evening but look great for a day look too. The high waist is so flattering, it really tucks the tummy in, and they work brilliantly with shoes or boots.” ● Fringed cardigan. “This is such a tactile piece, you just want to stroke it! It’s a bit different and will really get you noticed.” ● Herve Leger style dress. “This is a fabulous dress in one of the key shades of the season, grey. It’s super flattering with a simple but stylish neckline. An absolute winner.” Susan Lee

Military

Oversized knits

Time to quick march to the shops to invest in a military coat. Or if you want to take the theme further go with tapered leg trousers tucked into the flattest of boots. Hottest shade? Has to be khaki or camel. Belted trench coat, £119 from Mango

Chunky knits will be everywhere this season. Team with riding boots and skinny jeans for a country feel or cinch them in with a belt and wear with this season’s ladylike full skirts for an edgy take on the trend. A great coat alternative for early autumn. Long line cardigan, £69.90 from Mango

Ladylike

Taking a cue from the cinched waists and full skirts so beloved of the women in Mad Men fashion has come over all lady-like this season. Choose a full skirt that sits mid calf and watch out for lots of pussy bow blouses. And if you want to really work the trend replace a tailored jacket with a cape. Zara jacket £79.99 and skirt £49.99

Style guide to autumn

Tuesday, September 7, 2010

FACE OF THE ECHO 11

Fashion waits for no woman and with more than a hint of autumn in the air it’s time to reassess your wardrobe. Here’s our insider’s guide to what we’ll all be wearing in the coming weeks: New nudes

The shade of the season has to be camel but don’t dismiss tans and greys either. and Simple lines in the new nudes – tans, greys and camel – are perfect for a time-less, pared down chic look. Go for a simple shift dress or work it with a silky blouse. Suede shorts, £65; shirt, £45; cape, £95 all from Topshop

Faux fur

Jackets, gilets, cardiagns and even on bags, fake fur will be a must in most wardrobes. Tactile and warm, go for discreet trims or accessories if you don’t want ro go head to toe. Coat £100, Dress £60, Gloves £25 from Warehouse

Urban folk

Chunky knits, wacky accessories like ear muffs and woolly socks with super-high heels all spell one thing - urban folk. It’s a versatile trend that uses multiple layers to achieve that autumn festival look. Go for brushed flannel checks teamed with vintage fair isle and you’re good to go. Clothes from the Topshop autumn/winter collection for 2010
