Decorating a bedroo Whenitcomesto decoratingaboy’s bedroom, allyouneed issomeinspiration, saysSarahHooley
W
HETHER he's obsessed with shooting to the stars or is a budding football fanatic, there are reams of possibilities when it comes to decorating your little boy's bedroom. But where to start? The first thing that you'll need to do is pick a theme or colour scheme for the decor. Your son's age will, of course, help determine this, but it's important to have a chat with him about how he'd like the room to look. Like most children, he probably has a clear idea of what he wants and you will need to make sure that his ideas are achievable! Perhaps he has a favourite cartoon character or a hobby that you could base the room around? Or maybe he's a keen “Toffee” and wants to paint the room blue from floor to ceiling? If it’s Liverpool all the way, then red is the only colour for him. You can be as creative and imaginative as you want. CHOOSE A THEME Rainforests, creepy-crawlies and safaris are another great theme. Set the scene with stick-on wall murals of cheeky monkeys, roaring lions and jumbo elephants and brighten with funky orange, red, green or yellow duvet sets emblazoned with animals or bugs. You could even perch some soft cuddly tigers, fake snakes or toy spiders on the tops of shelves or woven around the spindles of the bed. Of course, football is all but guaranteed to keep most boys happy, and a soccer-style room will most likely last him for years. To create the look, wallpaper or paint the bedroom walls in his team's colours and complement with matching furnishings. From a furry grass-like green rug and locker-style wardrobes to football- shaped cushions and framed shirts or posters of his heroes, there are dozens of ways to tie in accessories and make his room

No boy’s bedroom is complete without a secret den! Picture courtesy of Ikea top of the league. Classic themes like cowboys, pirates, dinosaurs and fairytale knights are also excellent ideas, but it's hard to beat an “outer-space” bedroom. This timeless look has been capturing the imagination of boys for years and, with some silver fabric curtains, reflective paint and glow-in the dark stickers, it's easy to take his bedroom to infinity and beyond! HAVE FUN Turn it into a fun project and ask your son to help you decorate styrofoam craft balls to create a planet mobile. Or why not paint the ceiling with a dark blue or black emulsion and entwine with twinkling fairy lights so he can gaze at his very own night sky?
From trains to trucks, transport is a great theme to create a colourful boy's bedroom. Nam
Giving your little boy's bedroom a new look doesn't have to break the bank either. Second-hand stores, car boots and charity shops are great places to pick up odds and ends and you'll never
know what you can find for a bargain price. This is a particularly good tip if you suspect that their new found obsession might be a short-lived phase and you don't want to waste much money!

AND SO TO BED . . . However, if you do fancy splashing the cash, there's nothing quite like a themed bed to make a real focal point. Bed frames are available in all manner of shapes and sizes nowadays, with something to suit pretty much every theme. Perhaps he'd love a car-shaped bed frame that he can “vroom” off to sleep in every night?

om is just child’s play stylish bedrooms TRANSPORT is one of the most popular themes for younger boys. Be it cars, diggers, trains or trucks, they can't get enough of four-wheeled vehicles and it's a great basis to create a vibrant, colourful room. me letter train, from £2.50, from The Letteroom Or a cabin bed, complete with a covered den, where he can play with his friends? If you can afford it, they make a great addition to any bedroom and are sure to provide years of fun. But remember that there are a number of practical factors that will need to be considered, too. Your little boy's bedroom isn't just somewhere he'll sleep and, over the years,
it'll need to double as a play room, den, music room and study area as well. This needs to be taken into account when decorating and choosing what type of furniture to buy.

LIGHT UP Lighting is another crucial element.
STORAGE, STORAGE, STORAGE And don't forget the small matter of storage, storage, storage! For such little people, children acquire an inordinate amount of belongings and they all need somewhere to go. Bookshelves, ottomans, toy chests and under-bed boxes are invaluable, plus fitted wardrobes are way to hide clothes away.
Drive time wall stickers, £52, from Peanut and Pip Every child's room needs a central light fitting but, on top of that, a boy's bedroom will also require a bedside lamp for reading, a desk lamp for his schoolwork and perhaps a few special spot lights or coloured lights highlighting pictures or features in the room. Above all, though, decorating his room should be a fun task. So, whatever you and your little boy fancy, get creative and you could be surprised with the results!

accessorise with a road map play-rug, tables and chairs made from pretend road signs and tractor-shaped clocks. A sure-fire way to put his room in pole position! A themed bed will wow any little boy. Tuscany, Italy, from 50,000 euros THE 16th-century former Tuscan home of ancient and influential Italian families linked to the Medicis is to be restored to create an exclusive clubhouse for use by residents of holiday properties being offered for sale on the estate. Villa Bossi Pucci, which takes its name from the last family to have owned the property over four generations, will become the focal point of a Private Residence Club, created by converting its historic farm buildings into luxurious new holiday homes. They are set in 1.6 hectares (four acres) of landscaped gardens surrounded by vineyards, olive groves and cypress trees. The new clubhouse facilities are expected to include a coffee lounge, library, spa and a bar with an outside terrace. Guest suites for use by owners’ visitors are among other plans for the villa. They include the creation of secure private cantinas for the storage of individual owners’ wines alongside the ancient, four metre high, 5,000 litre capacity wine barrels currently occupying part of the cellar.
A bird’s-eye view of Villa Bossi Pucci, in Tuscany Located on the edge of the rural village of Montagnana, 24 km south-west of Florence, in the Chianti wine region, the holiday homes are being sold in a way which is said to offer the best value lifestyle option for people who cannot justify the cost of purchasing
and maintaining a holiday home overseas when, in reality, they will use it for only a few weeks each year. It also means they do not face the problems of maintaining a property abroad. The innovative Private Residence Club concept,
