EXCITEMENT is building ahead of next week’s Liverpool Daily Post Regional Business Awards final. As a nation, we are in the thick of an economic downturn, but none of the businesses featured in the Daily Post’s shortlist show signs of recession or lost sales. Indeed most of them are continuing to grow as if there was no slowdown. Since its launch in 1992, the Liverpool Daily Post Regional Business Awards have recognised the work of companies and

The nine award winners will be announced at the glittering blacktie awards dinner next Wednesday, June 24, within the stunning setting of Liverpool’s St George’s Hall. Firms’ recognitio THERE are many reasons why companies enter the Regional Business Awards. For some, it is about receiving recognition for their innovation and success. Others are looking for recognition of the long hours and hard work that go largely unseen. Boosting staff morale is also a good motivator – and hopefully will be a launchpad to even better achievements. Here, five businesses on the 2009 shortlist explain why they took the time to put their names forward for an award. Although Eli Lilly is headquartered in the USA, being part of the Speke community is a key focus for the company, which is why it has been shortlisted for the University of Liverpool Corporate Social Responsibility Award. It has built partnerships with local groups and charities, allowing its employees time off in order to participate in community activities. Craig Michael, the general manager at Eli Lilly, said: “Supporting our community is really important to us, and we believe we have a duty to provide much more than medicines. “It’s all about partnerships – building and strengthening relationships within our immediate community and offering tangible support, like employees’ time and expertise, which our company

Eli Lilly employs 700 people actively encourages employees to do, and sometimes financial help. “We’re passionate about giving back in the community we serve and are delighted to have been shortlisted for the corporate social responsibility award.” Chris Hughes, managing director of Regal Wholesale, is proud of his employees’ work, which has helped the company grow its markets. THE Duke of Westminster won the top honour at the Daily Post’s Regional Business Awards last year. It has been very much regarded as the poor second cousin to all our other great industrial cities throughout the United Kingdom. But now it has a project which is a flagship. It has something it can be deeply proud of. “It provides, yes, jobs and prosperity. But, above all, it provides hope for the future.
