OMEOWNERS in the North West are putting the brakes on moving house as they think it will take too long to sell their home, according to research by a major housebuilder.

The research revealed that homeowners are apprehensive about putting their home on the market because of worries that they won’t be able to find a suitable mortgage or get an offer that matches the true value of their house. Indeed, the research, by Morris Homes, found that more than a quarter of North West homeowners are delaying their move up the property ladder because of worries it will take a long

time to sell their existing home. The research also found that over a third of North West homeowners are avoiding putting their house on the market because of fears they won’t sell it for enough money. And a quarter of homeowners in the region are postponing their move because they are worried about finding a mortgage. Dave Hesson, regional managing director at Morris Homes, said: “Homeowners in the North West are shying away from a step up the property ladder because they fear putting their home up for sale will be a waste of time. Many don’t think anyone will make a serious offer for their property, and

that they won’t be able to secure a mortgage. “People think they need to do it on their own, but support is available in a range of schemes at our developments.” Designed to give househunters a helping hand, schemes such as partexchange, First Buy and New Buy are available at many Morris Homes developments. The housebuilder has a number of developments in the North West, including Upton Dene, near Chester, where prices range from £240,000 to £620,000, and The Point, in West Derby, Liverpool, where prices start at £124,750.
