HERE is still some way to go before housing supply meets buyer demand, despite increased activity from home-owners looking to sell their properties, according to local estate agency Jones & Chapman.

According to figures from Jones & Chapman’s parent company Sequence, buyers registering with its national network of branches greatly outnumber sellers requesting a market appraisal of their home and those putting their properties on the market. This represents a great opportunity for anyone looking to sell at the present time. Indeed, despite a 6% increase in the number of home-owners requesting a market appraisal in the first five months of 2013,

compared to the same period last year, and a 7% increase in the number of new and previously owned homes coming onto the market, the number of new instructions since the beginning of the year would only satisfy 18% of buyers registering with Sequence’s branches between January and May 2013. “While it’s very positive to see greater interest from sellers in the form of more market appraisals and more instructions, we need to increase the number of homes available to meet the level of interest we are seeing from buyers,” said Austin Mooney, branch manager for Jones & Chapman, Wallasey.
