Tennessee Williams
A Streetcar Named Desire Directed by Gemma Bodinetz

Lies, lies, inside and out. All lies. Desperate times call for desperate measures as faded southern belle, Blanche Dubois escapes to the heat and the heart of New Orleans. But a dark past is hard to leave behind and when confronted for the first time with her brother-in-law Stanley Kowalski, the present soon turns ugly. Tennessee Williams’s tender yet powerful Pulitzer Prizewinning 1947 play has long been considered a landmark of 20th century theatre. Artistic Director Gemma Bodinetz directs another American classic following her critically acclaimed Playhouse productions of All My Sons and Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf.
Director: Gemma Bodinetz Designer: Gideon Davey Lighting Designer: Paul Keogan Sound Designer: Fergus O’Hare Composer: Peter Coyte Cast: Annabelle Apsion, Russell Bentley, Leanne Best, Amanda Drew, Stephen Fletcher, Matthew Flynn, Alan Stocks, Mandi Symonds and Sam Troughton.

A Royal Exchange Theatre, Manchester and Lyric Hammersmith Production
MOGADISHU By Vivienne Franzmann Directed by Matthew Dunster
Following its world première and sell-out runs at the Lyric Hammersmith and Royal Exchange Theatre, Manchester, Mogadishu arrives at the Liverpool Playhouse to explore the clash of youth, class, race and justice. When white secondary-school teacher Amanda is pushed to the ground by black student Jason, she’s reluctant to report him as she knows exclusion could condemn him to a future as troubled as his past. But when Jason decided to protect himself by spinning a story of his own, Amanda is sucked into a vortex of lies in which victim becomes perpetrator. With the truth becoming less clear and more dangerous by the day, it isn’t long before careers, relationships and even lives are under threat. The only North West performances of the winner of the 2008 Bruntwood Prize for Playwriting. “The play of the year? Quite possibly.”HHHHH Daily Telegraph 6

OEDIPUSSY Performed by Aitor Basauri, Stephan
Kreiss, Petra Massey and Toby Park Directed and Adapted by Emma Rice Written by Carl Grose and the Company Hot on the heels of their acclaimed version of Moby Dick comes an eagerly-awaited collaboration of artists at the very forefront of British theatre. Spymonkey’s hilariously anarchic physical comedy and the playful storytelling of Kneehigh artistic director Emma Rice and writing partner Carl Grose, combine to create an outrageous no-holdsbarred subversion of the quintessential Greek tragedy – a tale of forbidden lust, accidental incest, violent murder and the ultimate dysfunctional family: a jealous father, a messed-up son, and one mother of a brilliant comedy. “Four of the greatest clowns currently working in Britain.”

PHOENIX DANCE THEATRE Crossing Points Works by Aletta Collins, Kwesi Johnson, Henri Oguike and Ana Luján Sánchez
Following the success of 2011’s Reflected, Phoenix Dance Theatre return to the Playhouse with the company’s latest exciting mixed programme. Crossing Points features the world premières of two contrasting dance works. Inspired by Magritte’s iconic painting The Son of Man, Ana Luján Sánchez’s Catch immerses the audience in an abstract, surreal world filled with intricate, dynamic and thought provoking choreography. SoundClash by Kwesi Johnson sees the dancers mimic the complex and beautiful patterns created by sound waves when made visible. The bill also features the return of Henri Oguike’s thrilling Signal, and another chance to see Aletta Collins’s sassy, hilarious modern Phoenix classic Maybe Yes Maybe, Maybe No Maybe. “Everyone should see this company.” Dance Europe 8

The Norman Conquests By Alan Ayckbourn Directed by Philip Wilson
“There are many blissful moments in these three plays, concerning a family gathering in a crumbling country house that left me physically helpless with hilarity.” The Daily Telegraph on The Norman Conquests
This brilliantly interconnected trilogy of comedies justifies Ayckbourn’s status as the world’s most performed – and perhaps most loved – living playwright. You can enjoy Table Manners, Living Together and Round and Round the Garden individually, but the experience is greatly enriched by seeing all three. A New Everyman for Everyone By the end of 2013, Liverpool will have a new Everyman, designed by architects Haworth Tompkins and described by Liverpool City Council Leader Joe Anderson as “a vital redevelopment for the City’s future”. The fully accessible and environmentally sustainable new Everyman will combine the trademark ‘thrust’ layout and basement Bistro with many new facilities. Light, open front-of-house spaces and a pavement café; rehearsal and workshop facilities; a new space for our work with young people and community groups, and a workspace for writers will allow the whole building to be a vibrant, creative hub, by day and night. And a beautiful façade, representing the people of Liverpool, will express the fact that this is truly an Everyman for everyone. Construction is now underway on the expanded Hope Street site, and you can follow progress via a webcam which is providing real-time footage and time-lapse pictures thanks to NW Systems. The live webcam feed can be viewed on our website at www.everymanplayhouse.com

If you would like to receive our regular progress reports, throughout the build and as we approach the opening season, please email ev4everyone@ everymanplayhouse.com.

Theatre for Everyone We believe everyone, no matter what their age or experience, should have the opportunity to enjoy great theatre. Look out for the following symbols on show pages and in the diary at the back. Accessible Performances
Audio description is a live verbal commentary giving information on the visual elements of a production as it unfolds. It’s great for anyone who sometimes finds it difficult to see the details of a performance; you don’t have to be blind to make use of audio description. A description of the setting, costumes and a full touch tour of the set are also available before the performance starts. Captioning is similar to television subtitling and converts the spoken word into text, which is displayed on a caption unit situated on or next to the stage. The captions also include the name of the character who is speaking or singing and descriptions of any sound effects. Captioning is a great way for anyone who sometimes finds it difficult to hear the actors speaking to still enjoy coming to the theatre. Audio brochure, Braille and Large Print format guides are available from the Box Office on request. 22
