It will put you on a path to places and experiences you may never have imagined. Whether you’re fulfilling a lifelong ambition or looking for what direction to take, you’ll be exposed to lots of exciting opportunities as you take the next step towards your future. Many jobs require a degree, so signing up for a university course is your ticket to getting into that career. Whether it is your dream to be a social worker, nutritionist, lawyer or computer game designer you will need a degree to get you to where you want to be.

But university isn’t just about study, it’s also a wonderful opportunity to develop skills that will set you up for the rest of your life. Your confidence will grow and you’ll gain independence. Plus you’ll build up loads of transferable skills, like managing your time, how to look after your money or even how to boil an egg!

If you have chosen to study away from home, university is also a chance to discover a new place in the UK. The place you live when you’re at university will be your home away from home. It may even be the place you decide to settle after your studies, when you’re looking for a job. And university isn’t just a chance to live somewhere new. During your degree at Hope, you could also travel around the UK and abroad on field trips or exchanges.

STORIES START AT HOPE Our students and alumni share how Liverpool Hope shaped their life. Mollie Baker is proof you can achieve whatever you put your mind to. Going from someone who thought she’d never be accepted into university, to the holder of a BA in Criminology, MA in Education and a member of Cambridge’s MPhil scholarship programme. “Hope gave me a chance when nobody else would. My education was left behind. With everything that was going on at home, I just couldn’t devote enough time to it. I couldn’t believe it when Hope offered me a place. I thought ‘Wow, someone actually believes in me’. Moving from my home in Essex to Liverpool was pretty hard going at first. Everything was completely new, but I have to say that I loved it. Being able to immerse myself in my studies was amazing. I’d never been able to do that before.
MOLLIE
“My tutors at Hope did a lot to build my confidence. They really pushed me in the final year of my Masters (MA) and made me believe that I belong at a place like Cambridge. The University and that wonderful network of support will always be part of me. I don’t want to sound dramatic, but the people there changed my life. I just can’t imagine me without Hope.”
Shannon Higgins, who studied BA Business Management and Information Technology, found the support she needed to reach her full potential.
SHANNON
“I came to Liverpool Hope from Northern Ireland on a recommendation from my cousin. I’ve loved it here. I’d recommend the University to anyone. I like the small and personal environment, which means you get to know everyone. I had a Learning Support Plan in place, which was really helpful, and now I’m leaving Hope with a First Class degree.”
For newlyweds Nikki Watson and Mel Shield, Hope is more than just the place they studied – it’s also where they said ‘I do’.
NIKKI & MEL
“We met in the Students’ Union bar within the first few months of being freshers. Mel was always there with his friends and I would go in and hope to see him. It took many weeks to even talk to each other, but Mel finally asked if I’d like to play a game of pool. We loved going to the SU together.
“I originally planned to study Disability Studies in Newcastle, but after seeing Hope on an Open Day, I had to be there. I’m from Southport and Mel came to Hope to study English Language from Northumberland. We couldn’t have had our wedding anywhere else, it was the top thing on our must-have list. To celebrate our wedding in the room where we met – not many people can say they did that.”
James Taylor landed his dream job as a Creative Specialist at Topshop, after his final degree show work caught the eye of the store’s Creative Team Leader. “It was a rigorous interview process, but I was delighted to make it through. They liked the multiple uses of lighting and mixed media in my work, which are essential when creating displays in Topshop. “Studying Fine Art at Liverpool Hope was amazing. The support from staff and other students provided me with the experience I needed in order to begin my career. The University’s large studio spaces enabled me to create work with few limitations, and staff supported me in developing my ideas.”

Drama graduates Franki Le-Voguer and Matthew Plummer put their friendship to the test by becoming business partners and launching Bespectacled Theatre Company.

FRANKI & MATTH
“I had my sights on starting a theatre company before I even went to uni, and the course helped me to refine the dedication and hard work needed to make our dream possible. We hope to create a platform for young/emerging artists to explore new work that looks at the world differently. It’s a lot of hard work, but it’s worth it when you’re in a rehearsal room and something just clicks.”

MONEY, MONEY, MONEY If you are worried about the cost of your time at university, take a look at our quick guide to paying back your loan.*
How much does a student loan cost to repay?
The answer is nothing, until you earn £25,000.
Repayment thresholds for student loans changed on 6th April 2018, meaning the amount you have to earn before you start repaying your student loan has increased from £21,000 to £25,000. You pay back nine per cent of the amount you earn each year, which is over the repayment threshold. For example, if you earn £26,000 per year, you'll be paying back 9 per cent of £1,000, so just £90 per year. The table below shows some monthly repayment examples: Your annual income before tax
