All bulls taken home are at the buyers risk for injury or death and we strongly suggest that you purchase insurance on your bulls. Insurance will be available sale day. We will provide free keep until April 1st at which time we will begin charging $1.50/day. We will fertility test the bulls for you prior to delivery for a reasonable cost and will deliver the bulls free within North Dakota and nearby points in Minnesota and will work with everyone else to deliver bulls at the most reasonable cost possible.

We are proud to be hosting our sixteenth annual sale and prouder yet to see the progress we have made in our genetics since we held our first sale. In looking back at our first sale catalog, it is amazing to see how the cattle have changed since we first started. It is important to note that the improvements we have made since the first sale are reflective of the fact that the Simmental breed is the place to be if you are a cattle producer who wants to move your program forward quickly. It can be argued that the Simmental breed has made more positive progress on the genetics of our cattle than any other breed. As an example of what the Simmental breed can do, when we retained ownership on our steers recently, they compiled some amazing statistics. After picking out the best calves to be retained for our bull sale, the rest were fed to slaughter. The steers averaged 1,400 lbs. at the end of April at about 13.5 months of age. That is a powerful statement of what today’s Simmentals can do for your breeding program. We strive to produce cattle that will perform at a high level and produce profitable results for our customers. The cattle industry is seeing unprecedented record prices and the future looks bright. We have the lowest cow inventory in the US since the 1950’s and demand for beef is rising. We are all hoping for a stronger economy in the US, and when it improves, there will unquestionably be much greater demand for beef. There has never been a more opportune time to prepare for tomorrow’s stronger markets. Dear Friends,

Welcome to our sixteenth annual sale. What a great time to be in the cattle business. Another strong year for prices. We are hearing more than ever about the great weights and dollars being produced by crossing with Simmental bulls. One cattleman stated to me that in the last 3 years he’s increased weights by over 100 lbs. by using Simmental purebred bulls on his Angus cows. That statement struck home to me as he insisted they be purebred bulls. He’d tried percentage bulls. On the home front, it was an early, dry spring and we had above average crops. October brought the rains and mud. We couldn’t wean until November 20th. We will have average daily gain by sale day, as we would like to have at least 75 days on feed. Check our website for updated data and videos of the bulls. I enjoy spending time with each of the four grandkids. The ones in Fargo see us every weekend of a Bison game. How about that 2nd National Championship? Yes, we made it to Frisco, Texas. I would like to thank the ND Simmental Association for presenting me with the Pioneer award as a“30 plus” year breeder. Homo Polled- Homo Black. What a curve bender he is turning out to be. His calves are as good as any bull we have used on heifers and this fall the bulls are all in the bull pen. Mark AI’d a lot of our heifers to him this year. His EPD’s are very predictable, with calving ease, low birth weight and above average growth. Semen available from Bata/Olafson.

Homo Polled- Hetero Black. We are using Black Eye to carry on the great performance, body length, and muscle of TNT Top Cut. His first calf crop averaged an 84 lb. birth weight, so go figure how EPD’s work. Kory Jorgenson, Rugby, ND uses two full brothers on Angus cows with tremendous results. Black Eye’s dam is one of the best cows we have owned. Her flush of bulls topped the 2011 sale and is currently being flushed this winter. He fits our goal of fast growth but moderate mature size. He broke some teeth bull fighting this fall. Anyone know a bull dentist?

This Olie son was the lead-off bull in our 2009 sale and sold to Bouchard Livestock in Canada for $15,000. We retained a 1/3 interest in the bull. He is a real powerhouse and has a very rare combination of calving ease, rippling muscle, tremendous thickness and high performance. He is also a rare find in that he had the lowest birth weight at 83 lbs, and the highest adjusted yearling weight at 1530 lbs, of any calf in our 2009 sale. Check out his EPDs and his API and TI indexes and you will know that it will be a challenge to find one anywhere this good. He is homozygous polled and homozygous black.

“Mr. J” is a new herd sire and we have high expectations that he is about to become a sire that a lot of cattlemen are going to use in their program. He weighed 1320 lbs. at 10 months old and has tremendous EPDs. He is homozygous polled and homozygous black.

Thor was our high selling bull in our 2011 sale, selling for $9,500 to Kappes Simmentals, Long Lake, SD. Bruce has reported that they are very happy with the results, with the Thor calves calving easy and showing good performance. They are using him extensively on heifers. The Thor calves in our pen show a pattern of tremendous natural thickness and strong performance. He is Homozygous Black and Homozygous Polled.

Lakota comes out of Canada, where he was the high selling bull in the Lewis Farms 2010 sale. He sires progeny with great thickness, growth and eye appeal. He ranks in the top 30% for calving ease, top 5% for weaning weight and in the top 1% for yearling weight. He is Homozygous Polled and Heterozygous Black.

This son of NLC Patriarch 24P was our second high seller in our 2008 sale and is now in stud at ABS. He had a rare combination of high marbling and an above average ribeye area. His marbling score of 4.7 ratioed at 148 and his ribeye area of 16.12 ratioed 108. He also had an 811 lb adjusted weaning weight, an adjusted yearling weight of 1372 and an actual scrotal measurement of 40 CM. He is homozygous polled and is a non-diluter.

Grandmaster has been widely used as calving ease sire and we have used him successfully on heifers for two calving seasons. As a bonus, he has sired some outstanding calves that are thick and deep and have great performance. He is homozygous polled and homozygous black.

Z27’s sire came out of McMillen’s and is owed by Ekstoms in SD. After seeing him sell and his first calves we flushed N305 and bred several cows. They come easy and are super thick. Solid black. This calf got his ears nipped a bit one morning when his dam ended up in the wrong place at the wrong time, but once you look past that, he is a tremendous calf.
