Dear Cattlemen, I would like to welcome you to our first annual bull sale at Shamrock Livestock Market. We are very thankful that we could work with Shamrock’s owners and staff to bring you our bull sale. We have brought these bulls out here because this is Cow Country. We are one of the few, if not one of the only, operations in the Midwest that make our sole income from cattle. We don’t farm any grains or have any other jobs or income that doesn’t come from cattle. We have been in the cattle business for over 50 years and have bred and showed over a 100 National Champions in numerous breeds. In 1988 we had the Grand Champion bull in three different breeds at the National Western Stock Show: Angus, Shorthorn and Charolais. In 2009, we had the Grand Champion bull in four different breeds and a Grand Champion female at NAILE: Angus, ChiAngus, ChiMaine and Hereford bulls, plus a Charolais female. That very year we also exhibited the best six head for Angus, Chis and Hereford breeds. Most recently, we bred and showed the 2018 Grand Champion Angus bull and Grand Champion Angus cow/calf and 2017 Reserve Grand Champion Angus bull at the National Western Stock Show in Denver and 2018 National Champion ChiAngus bull, 2017 Grand Champion Angus bull and 2017 Res. National Champion Chi bull at NAILE. We also custom fit the 2020 & 2019 National Champion Waygu bulls and females for one guest consigner: Emerson Cattle Company. We believe that we produce real-world cattle that work in all aspects of industry from show ring to pasture and feedlot. We select by eye first and foremost. We select for length of body first and foremost because that is where 80% of the cattle’s weight comes from, then, we select cattle that are structurally sound that are good jointed heavy boned and big footed. We also pride ourselves on producing cattle that combine added growth with low input cost and moderate birth weights and on top of that cattle are attractive to the eye with balanced line symmetry and flash. We pay attention to these animals’ EPDs and try to keep them balanced in all traits but believe that eye appraisal is more real and more valuable for the simple fact that EPDs are predictions and actual live weights are fact. Plus, the way an animal is built effects its calving ease more than weight. It also effects the longevity and even their quality grade in terms of carcass merit. We are awfully proud of these bulls and we know if you take these bulls home and try them that you will be extremely happy with them. We stand by these bulls 100%. This is a senior yearling bull we turned out on seven heifers in October and ran him with them till January. He settled all seven heifers. He is a bull that combines our best Angus and Chi cow families: on the top side Mignonne family on bottom side: Miss Rattle family.
