ABOUT ME I think that, as an architect, envisioning how people could live in a specific place and how the existent background would interact with your proposal, with its inhabitants, or the functional connections that develop, it is a tremendous responsability and yet such a powerful instrument of bringing people together.

Livia Pleșca 1

In my humble experience that touched the surface of architecture field through all sorts of multidisciplinary projects, I have come to realise that great architecture lies not within the process, the loneliness of the creator or that one big idea, but in the community spirit, the teamwork and the will to use the abillities of manipulating space in creating that one place that makes the community or the city a little better.

tition 2019 CLUE INTERNATIONAL LIGHTING COMPETITION

BRIEF: The challenge of CLUE Edition 05 was to explore how light can help to prevent challenging situations and crisis or manage emergencies when they occur. One important aspect was that the outcome should demonstrate the exploration and resolution of the synergistic relationship of this new lighting solution in it’s unique setting. PROPOSAL: ”The tree of light” is a multipurpose lighting solution, with the appearance of a tree, following the idea that in times of disruption people are unconsciously drawn to familiar and shelter-like objects. During an earthquake, the pedestrians on this street are threatened by the collapse of the numerous old and unconsolidated buildings. Therefore we proposed an object in the middle of the boulevard, in safe areas, a ”refuge made of light”.

6

“In that 1977 quake, 33 [high-rise] buildings in Bucharest were completely destroyed, but many others were damaged, says Lungu. The former director of the Romanian National Institute of Historical Monuments points to the metal brackets that were attached to building walls as a quick-fix solution soon after the earthquake struck. The fact those brackets are still there today, and that little has been done to shore up these heritage buildings, is of major concern to Lungu and others trying to protect both the city and its structures.

LOGICAL SCHEMA OF THE SYSTEMS COMPOSING THE REFUGE

LEFT: sketches showing early ideas of the project

It integrates several compartments in its core: the main control panel, the electrical generator, flashlights for rescuers and a landline phone. Solar energy is captured, transformed and used during the crisis. The earthquake sensor turns on the warning lights and the ambient light which is diused through a translucent material. Located on an important axis which connects important parts of the city, the refuges have at the top a powerful light projector that helps and guides the rescuers. 8

2019_ LA ETAJUL III (third floor) || second prize

BRIEF: The objective of this competition was to redesign the premises of Brandweb, an agency which develops digital products (e-commerce and custom apps) located in our city, Iasi. They wanted a friendly, warm space, which would make them more relaxed and productive. They wanted the new design to embody values such as fair-play, unity, “the power of the team”, all of which being connected to their shared passion : soccer. PROPOSAL: We wanted to create a stronger bond within the bigger team by arranging the workspace in such a manner that the focal point was the long office table, whose background was the solid wall filled with wired grids for photo or notes or messages display.

3 DIFFERENT SCENARIOS

In the brainstorm the employes of the agency made as a part of our creative process, they often associated the ideea of relaxation with working on laptop in a coffee shop, so we tried to adapt the cushioned seats and the high table top we usually find in coffee shops to the standards of an office, to explore the flexibility and the multifunctional character of a modern office.

2018_ COVACI 6-8 ||second prize

BRIEF: Three buildings, two courtyards and thre alleyways are given. Also a lot of posibilities, room to play with the space and surprising connoections with the old city of Bucharest. Covaci 6-8 is a competition born from the desire of the owners to create a pivotal space, a trully contemporary landmark that could attract both new users and new functions in the old centre of Bucharest. PROPOSAL: a mix of functions such as commerce, galleries, worshops, oices, restaurant, all articulated around the central courtyard and with the help of the urban snake- the red marked trail that guides the tourist or the people that come here for the first time through the complex, marking the important spaces through the change in ritm or in size.

14

ground-floor plan

One issue that we found was the inconvenient relatioship of the building E with the church of Saint Antoine, an architectural monument. we came up with a way to make the building less present by covering the facade with a new skin made of channel glass system which difusses the light from inside at night, and appearing almost translucent during daytime.

STUDENT HUB 5th semester

contracted space

BRIEF: A socio-cultural program vwith a high level of flexibility, the student hub gathers around a great number of activities, such as library, workshop, exhibition, commerce, food service spaces. The social dimension of this programme is the most important one, so the project should consider the gathering spaces as key features of the concept. Also, the design should take into account the urbanistic relationship with the surroundings and the impact on the site. PROPOSAL: The project seeks to bring a fresh dialogue between the old buildings across Victor Babes street and this modern programme. The building of the hub is deconstructed into smaller parts that try to cover the entire site and revolve around the exterior amphitheatre. The 4 diagramms best describe the intentions concerning the volumetry.

VILLAGE IN THE SKY KINDERGARDEN 6th semester

BRIEF: In the context of the relatively uncontrolled development of residencial areas in our city it is necessary designing new public mandatory facillities, one of which being kindergardens. PROPOSAL: The whole concept of this kindergarden revolves around the idea that children see the world dierently that grown ups and they react better to environments that stimulate their imagination. Therefore the kindergarden becomes a platform for them to rise and see the nature and the city from a higher perspective, to play around these little houses that are surprisingly connected with the space of the classrooms and the big hall and the corridors. All is yet to be discovered, nothing is laid out as it is.

MIXED-USE DEVELOPMENT 9th semester

BRIEF: Mixed-use developments are redefining the image of the modern city. The proposed areas in this project are in great need for urban restructuring and economical development and this type of project would be an ideal solution for that. PROPOSAL: In designing this project we wanted to take advantage of its location- the view of Cetatuia convent set on a near hill, the adjencency of a major road intersection and also of its terrain’s gradient. Thus the development opens to the public space through a grand entrace set back from the street. The small plaza created this way is doubled in the back by a small courtyard, at the top level of the lot. The offices and the comercial spaces are interlaced aroud the central atrium which unfolds on multiple levels and the courtyard with the entrace to the apartment building for the office workers along with shops and a cafe acts as a focal point for the people walking through the atrium. 26

kshops OR: ARTISTS AND CRAFTSMEN IN RESIDENCE, Banffy Castle, Romania

This creative residence gave me the chance to have an incredible experience: combining installation design with traditional crafting on the background of a historical setting, Banffy castle. We designed and executed wooden exterior furniture using traditional techniques, hybrids (musical instrument turned into furniture), a parametric ceilling or interractive pieces of installation. Our team was made up by people from different work fields but all connected to cultural realm, so all of us brought their unique vision into this project. We envisioned a series of pieces of installation and furniture that bring life to the castle by enganging visitators in sensorial experiences. The exhibition was opened to the public for one year at Banffy castle.

2018 BALTA ECOMUSEUM, TRADITIONAL ARCHITECTURE AND SUSTAINABLE TOURISM, Balta, Romania The theme of this summer school was the exploration of the possible ways of preserving the built heritage of the Mehedinti Geopark area, focusing on the villages inside Balta commune. The first few days we took part in discussions with sociologists and architects about the future of rural Romania, how we can preserve traditions and, most importantly, the archaic architecture embodying the wisdom of our ancestors. By engaging in dialogue with the inhabitants of the Balta village and by visiting old houses and also the villages around we constructed a clearer image about the specific of these rural area and what it would take to revive these underpopulated villages.

UP: the reabilitation of the small house, turning it into a small exhibition space We started small- a circular bench in the heart of the village, made of local materials, with the purpose of enganging the community in fruitful dialogues, after that we reabilitated a small house and converted it into an exhibition space for traditional items donated by the older villagers. Through our actions we tried to restore a sense of beloging to the Balta village, to make them see what a treasure their lifestyle is for romanian culture and to make a first step on the road of putting Balta and the sourrounding on the map.

projects GEMINI CAD SYSTEMS_Design for education Internship 2016

Through this internship I worked consistently with the graphic design team as well as one of the partners to come up with ingenious solution for a sponsorship project. Firstly, I was involved in the redesign of one informatics laboratory at UAIC Iasi. We created the prototype of desks and the layout as to better fit the needs of the students and the proportions of the room. Also in the same space I was in charge of the large print on a 3x8 meter wall. The idea was to make a design that would inspire the students, so we choose to present a visual and chronologicaltimeline of the greatest personalities that have influenced the world of computers so far.
