Marijuana has been scientifically proven to have medical benefits...yet, continues to

Medical marijuana can soothe nausea and increase appetite, quiet pain, soothe anxiety and even reduce epileptic seizures. Other research on the healing effects of cannabis is being examined. For example, research suggests that THC may be able to improve memory according to a 2016 study. More than half of the United States has legalized marijuana for medical use.

Some studies have suggested that medical marijuana legalization might be associated with decreased prescription opioid use and overdose deaths, but researchers don't have enough evidence yet to confirm this finding. For example, one study found that Medicare Part D prescriptions filled for all opioids decreased in states with medical marijuana laws. Another study examined Medicaid prescription data and found that medical marijuana laws and adult-use marijuana laws were associated with lower opioid prescribing rates (5.88 percent and 6.88 percent lower)

Scientific study of the chemicals in marijuana, called cannabinoids, has led to two FDAapproved medications that contain cannabinoid chemicals in pill form. Continued research may lead to more medications. www.livingwellmagazine.net February 20197
