Meet the Team: Livio Social Workers At Livio, we understand how intimidating and complex the world of health care can seem. Medical social workers can help you and your family navigate life’s most challenging moments. As a critical part of Livio’s interdisciplinary team, they partner with our nurse practitioners, nurses, chaplain, and your existing doctors and specialists. Supporting Your Broader Needs The scope of our social workers extends beyond traditional medical care to address your broader needs. While managing the physical impacts of illness and aging are important to our care teams, our social workers focus on deeply supporting you as a whole person. They can assess your social, financial, emotional, and environmental needs and work to alleviate any burdens present. Our social workers are well-equipped to help you navigate any challenges you may be experiencing, but they can also proactively encourage areas of opportunity. They can be a resource for enhancing your well-being and setting goals. Whatever a good day looks like for you, Livio’s care team will create a care plan that lets you focus on that outcome. Helping You Focus on More Good Days Our social workers help you integrate your care plan with your personal life and support systems. They can help you identify your goals of care, assist with advance care planning, connect you to helpful resources, and provide short-term counseling. Or, if you just need a friendly face to talk to every once in a while, they can be that for you too. Livio’s social workers not only support you, but they are an available resource for your caregivers and family members to lean on. They can answer questions, alleviate environmental burdens, facilitate family conversations, and help your family plan for the future. Rest assured that you will always be in good hands. 2

Practicing Gratitude Gratitude is a state of being thankful for what you have. Regularly practicing gratitude can positively impact your physical, mental, and social health. It can ease anxiety, lower stress hormones, increase energy, boost your mood, and improve relationships with others. All of these benefits can lead to a happier lifestyle overall. To incorporate more gratitude in your lifestyle, try out the following tips:
Be intentional
A grateful heart starts with a grateful mind. Incorporate more reflection time into your daily routine to think about your blessings—whether that’s while you’re brushing your teeth, as you enjoy breakfast, or right before bed.
Create tangible reminders
Write a list of things you’re thankful for, answer reflective journaling prompts, or place a sticky-note quote on your mirror. Visualizing your thoughts can stimulate more reflection than just keeping it all in your head.
Try mindfulness exercises
It’s difficult to think about what you’re grateful for when your mind is focused elsewhere. Practice whatever strategies brings you the most peace, whether that’s through prayer, meditation, music, or moments of silence.
Ask others to keep you accountable
It can be hard to do this alone. It might be helpful to talk to people you love and work on this together. Find a family member or friend who you trust to help you practice gratitude. Encourage each other along the way and celebrate when good things happen.
Share your gratitude
When you’re feeling thankful, why not pass that positive energy on? Let people know they’ve had a positive impact on you through thank you cards, compliments, or a quick phone call. Learn more about cultivating a grateful lifestyle at liviohealth.com/read/gratitude 5
