EDITOR’S LETTER TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS

When the pandemic brought the world to a standstill just over a year and a half ago, many of us had no idea what the future would hold. As time passed and the situation worsened, then improved, then worsened again (and so on and so forth), I noticed that people shifted from living in a state of suspension, idly waiting for normal life to resume, and moved instead towards adaptability, expecting and planning for things to change at any minute. We might not be able to get back to normal life anytime soon, but we’re moving on nonetheless and we’re probably more resilient for it.

To that end, we decided to do an issue that celebrates pandemicpreneurs: people who chose to launch businesses in the last year, COVID-19 be damned! Find out who these brave souls are, what their stories are, and what they’ve learned along the way, in our cover story on p.18.

With flights grounded and travel still largely restricted, Hongkongers have been embracing hiking like it’s no one’s business in the past 18 months. With so many of us hitting the trails, it might be time to finally invest in a proper pair of boots so you can level up your hiking game. We spoke to our local hiking experts Get High HK for their recommendations, and which trails to hit up on p.26.

We also scoped out the best all-day breakfast spots on p.32, and learned how to survive a three-week hotel quarantine with kids on p.36.
