ACADEMIC WORK, NUS ARCHITECTURAL STUDIO SITE: 0.37 ACRE, SINGAPORE TIME: 01/2012- 04/2012 INSTRUCTOR: CHO IM SIK INDIVIDUAL WORK Raffles Place is not only a transfer subway station, an open space but also a historic spot inheriting the Singapore’s memory. In the past 200 years, the ownership of Singapore has changed hands among Holland, Britain, Japan, and Malaysia. However, Singaporean’s desire for independence never diminished and grew stronger as the colonial history evolved. Such motivation constantly drives Singapore to become a developed nation as it stands strong in the world today. Raffles Place is redesigned as a special exhibition pass way in CBD to have more interaction with the green and to maximize the use of this open space. It is circuitous but continuously rising, displaying the historic photos and art works on the glass wall, which represent the hardship of Singapore’s history and recall Singaporean’s childhood memories.
