Thumbnails Carrots

For this assignment, I had to really think about what a carrot is and how it is functional. I have to admit that I didn’t really think of a carrot as more than just a vegetable before now. Creating an attribute list forced me to think about this food item in a new light. I will never even look at food quite the same same way again!

Attribute list

Object: Carrot Physical/functional attributes: cool, orange, green, silent, rough, non-symmetrical, v-shaped, tear drop shaped, smooth texture, solid, fleshy, quiet, dry, low odor. Possible uses: food, nutritional, decoration, food group representitive, dessert, snack, meal. Possible new uses: pencil, pet, car, cannon, eyeglasses, earings, hat, cone, bun, airplane, vehicle, balloon, animal.

Thumbnails Heart

For this assignment, I had to view a heart as an object as well as a part of my body. I have always looked at a heart as teh giver of life. In this class, I had to think of a heart as art not just as an organ. I enjoyed thinking of new uses for a heart such as a table and set of chairs.

Attribute list

Calm/Tense

Calm

For this assignment, I felt extremely challenged because I was clearly out of my element. I had no idea how to use limited shapes and create something calm or tense. I searched the Internet endlessly to get examples or images in my mind that seemed calm and tense. Then I looked at their structure and sought out the geometric shapes that created them. Once I did that I began on my own path of clam and tense shapes which I then posted for grading.

Calm/Tense

TENSE

To me, tense meant anger and frustration. I did not know how to represent it using shapes and with the limitation of color. First, I drew simple lines and tried not to re-use what I had in the other parts of the assignment. Next, I thickened lines to create a tense feeling and then I moved lines around until I got teh shapes you see above.

Calm/Tense

HEAVY

Heavy seemd to me to be something that was a blog of color mixed among thin lines. After a while I thought about how nails can be heavy, thick and strong. That was the motivation behind these two images.

Calm/Tense

Light

Light seemed to me to represent something thin, flowing and uncomplicated. I started with circles and placed them in different positions. After a while I saw a cup or a “C shape take shape and I was hooked.

Positive and Negative For this assignment, I immedietly thought of teh Marines! I want to join someday and I see this unit made of people who go by a strick code of conduct or “black and whie about rules and regulations. I placed a helmet on my head and took a photo. Using Photoshop, I created a black and white image of myself as a Marine following strick rules of conduct.

The Few. The Proud. The ones who know how to kick ass.

The Marines

We For this assignment, I thought about the use of black and white space as well as geometric shapes. Hereos are always needed in teh real world. I wanted to represent people to be admires in a clean and unobtrusive way. That is why I used simple shapes and alternating colors of black and white.

Clock Design

For this assignment, I saw the Marines as an image in the stock pile and new I had to use it. I wanted my clock to be simple and eye catching. I like the constrats between the golden green and black. I can see myself marching to the Marine Corp hymn and and keeping time with my steps.

IN LIFE, IT’S NOT WHO YOU

REPRESENT BUT WHAT.

You command respect wherever you go. Something deep down inside sets you apart from the crowd. It’s the same something that tells you that you were meant to do great things. The question is, are you ready to step up? Are you ready to rise up to any challenge? If you are, you just might have what it takes to be an officer in the U.S. Marines. Complete the tough, physically demanding training to become an officer in the Marine Corps, and you’ll wear a uniform that represents the honor, courage and determination of the most respected force on earth.

For this assignment, I thought ofthe tragedy on 9/11. I saw how the military came to the resuce of thousands of people. I wanted to represent their efforts and that is why I created these images. The red is for teh blodd that was shed on that day. The flag is for America will rise again.
