12 lessons from the city... My Fall 2019 Collection was inspired by the city —I recently had the opportunity to spend 2 months in NYC. This collection has hints of the busy streets, with muted colors and pops of red worked into layerable pieces. This season we have focused on making fewer garments really well, choosing the ones we know you will love and we can perfect in our small workshops—hope you enjoy! 1. Life is hard and we are all just doing the best we can. (Same for everyone everywhere, but we won’t tell the New Yorkers that :).) 2. That sweater on the right is perfect! 3. New Yorkers are a whole new level of flaky! But it does make the rare kindness more genuine. 4. You overhear some of the weirdest conversations working from a new coffee shop everyday. Yes, there are that many coffee shops. 5. Hope might look a lot like waiting. 6. Sustainable fashion isn’t just better for the people sewing the clothes, it is hands down better too for the designers, art directors, and stylists. Conscious fashion tends to treat their people better! 7. Eco-fashion companies are smaller than you think they are —90% of them. Which is why it is even more important you support them! You are helping pay for that one person who gets a better job, both here in the States and the person who sewed that garment. 8. Everyone should visit Central Park. 9. Being around corporate fashion again made me remember how wasteful and backwards it can be, and sadly how far we are from mainstream changes. But, words for you...repair, buy second -hand, buy quality things that last forever. 10. No one talks about NY desserts...they are incredible. 11. Still one of my favorite cities—love hearing 5 languages in the span of 5 minutes! 12. Fashion might seam meaningless and wasteful sometimes, but is still an art form we put on our bodies everyday, whether we realize it or not.

Our Goals 1. Empower women living in poverty, so they have more control of their lives: the choice of where to work; the choice to go back to school. The choice of where to put their kids in school. 2. Tracking our production from fiber to sewing. 3. Designing with high quality fabric that will last while celebrating the textile heritage indigenous to the countries we work with — handwoven organic cotton, naturally dyed ikat, pima cotton, super soft alpaca, hand spun wool. 4. We think recycling is important! We design garments specifically for the wide variety of recycled textiles we can source —recycled denim, upcycled second-hand t-shirts, overstock rolls of fabrics. 5. We want you to love our clothes! Sustainable fashion is NOT sustainable if the garment does not last and you don’t actually wear it. We wear our own clothes. We try them and are working really hard to improve their fit and quality. 6. We want our clothing to make you feel good: dresses that are easy to throw on, sweaters that are incredibly comfortable, and garments that intuitively layer. 7. Honestly, we are still trying to figure this thing out ourselves. Working with small workshops in developing countries can be a challenge! Our technology and equipment is just not as good as mainstream factory production, but this season we have handpicked a few pieces we know we can make really well while perfecting the fit. We hope these pieces will become items you love season after season!
