More than 200 people took part and almost 400 separate natural and cultural assets were identified for their economic, environmental, cultural and social value to the local community. All these voices will help shape the Catchment Action Plan.
A new Catchment Action Plan (CAP) for the Border Rivers‐Gwydir catchment is being prepared.

What’ s happened so far?
Stage 1: General Community Engagement During this intense community consultation phase, our aim was to find out which natural, cultural and social 'assets' in our catchment are most valuable to the people who live here in this diverse and beautiful part of the world. From July to September 2011, 17 communties across the Border Rivers – Gwydir region hosted forums to take part in the Catchment Action Plan review.

What’s on now?
Workshop participants described many unique visions for their catchment area, the most often quoted are featured above. Maintaining the population of small communities and having meaningful employment in these areas was also mentioned regularly.
Stage 2: Target Group Workshops We’ve now moved onto the second stage of upgrading our CAP, which includes workshops and meetings with key government agencies and representative organisations from the community, such as; Department of Primary Industries, Office of Environment and Heritage and National Parks and Wildlife Services Shire Councils Aboriginal Reference Advisory Group Landcare groups Industry associations Academics, technical specialists and advisors Rural Fire Service and State Emergency Services Local agronomists
Catchment Action Plan Upgrade Newsletter Collaboration with Northern Rivers CMA The Northern Rivers and Border Rivers‐Gwydir are neighboring catchments separated by the Great Dividing range. In an attempt to resolve different priorities and streamline the planning process on the tablelands, the two CMA boards have taken a collaborative approach toward planning projects on the Northern Tablelands. The approach will provide better natural resource management outcomes for Tablelands.
Whats coming up?
Stage 3. Resilience Analysis Workshops From April 2012, we welcome all to participate in “Resilience Analysis” workshops. The workshops will identify the key processes (or “drivers”) of change – on your property, in your community, within the landscape and across the catchment – particularly relating to the resource assets you identified through previous consultation. More information will be sent about these workshops in the next CAP update. If you want to know more, call Wendy Miller and book your place. Natural and cultural assets of Moree and surrounds Following the Stage 1 workshops in the western part of the catchment, we identified gaps in coverage. We are very keen to get more community input to identify natural and cultural assets of value to people to the north west and south west of Moree. Please feel free to contact us and discuss this further.
