Pack your bags for a week of excitement at YMCA Overnight Camps while making friends, exploring nature, experiencing adventures and engaging in activities (i.e., hiking, archery, canoeing, campfires). Two locations are available this year:

• 49er Youth Sports Camp at CSULB
1250 Bellflower Blvd., Long Beach (562) 985-4049, www.csulb.edu/summer-camps All-sports camp for boys and girls ages 5-13, includes instruction in a variety of sports, such as archery, basketball, gymnastics, bowling, soccer, softball, hockey, tennis, golf, volleyball, dance, physical fitness, track and field, and swim lessons. Each student will be assigned to one of four age groups. Assignment will be based upon the chronological age of each camper. Each activity will be selected for its contribution to the needs and abilities of the group. 2022 sessions: June 20 - July 15 and July 18 - August 12, Monday - Friday, 1-5 p.m. $625. Space is limited and confirmed for the first 450 campers with a completed application and payment. Online registration and credit card payment only. Long Beach (562) 901-0111, www.actingoutcamp.com Their camp program celebrates creativity through a series of drama skills workshops. Improvisation, musical theater, monologue work, scene study, theater games, stage combat, and so much more. Acting Out is for campers, ages 7-17, involved in other theater programs, as well as those new to acting. They challenge every camper according to their comfort level. At the end of each session they have an in-person showcase for family and friends. Three weeks offered, full or half day, sign up for one or all: June 2024, July 11-15, and August 8-12. • Alamitos Bay Yacht Club Summer Sailing Camp
7201 East Ocean Blvd., Long Beach (562) 434-9955, www.abyc.org Summer sailing camp is offered for ages 8-18. Participants learn to rig their own sailboat, sail on their own, and eventually participate in a race. They also learn how weather, wind, and a sailboat work. On days with no wind, there will be beach activities like capture the flag and paddle boarding for the kids to socialize with their new friends. Sailors will learn to sail in Alamitos Bay in “Sail Cubes,” a plastic version of the Optimist. They will graduate to the ‘Optimist’ or the ‘Naples Sabot’ (both one-person boats for children under the age of 15). Classes will also be offered in the ‘Club Flying Junior’ (a two-person boat for teens), and the ‘Laser’ (a one-person boat for teens). Monday – Friday, June 20 – August 12 (no camp on June 24, July 4, July 8, or July 15). See ad on page 17.
