LEDs for Outdoor Activities lizping.wordpress.com /2013/09/12/leds-f or-outdoor-activities/ LED lighting can be used for all sorts of purposes around the home, from growing plants to interior design. But LED (light- emitting diode) lights are great for outside the home as well. The benefits of using LED lights in comparison to other lighting alternatives for supporting all of your outdoor pursuits are many and varied. Here are 6 sport and adventure outdoor activities which can benefit from the use of LED lighting like LED Headlamps. LEDs f or Diving LED lights are the perfect option for dive lamps and torches due to their level of safety and reliability. Because they use a fraction of the battery power of HID (high- intensity discharge) lights, you’re less likely to run out of power when sitting at 22 metres under the sea. They are also almost indestructible, so banging them around on coral and rock faces won’t do much damage. Considering it also costs a bomb for dive gear, it’s nice that LEDs are a much cheaper alternative to HID lights. LEDs f or Running LED lights are the perfect solution for evening, early morning and night- time road running, which is often inevitable for people living in the likes of London, who are faced with a long daily commute. Nowadays, the variety of LED- light solutions is endless with clip- on, stick- on and strap- on versions. Try stick- on LEDs for your running jacket and clip- on lights for your running shoes. Also, if you are a regular runner, LEDs are much cheaper than fluorescent and incandescent alternatives. LEDs f or Biking

Woman riding a bicycle depending on your cycle preference, there can be two very different needs here, as road cycling lights differ greatly from mountain biking lights. If you’re a road cyclist, you’re lighting up simply to be seen, and therefore factors around weight and battery life are most important. Luckily, LED lights deliver on both. LED bike lights are light, compact and they won’t fade and flicker like many other lighting alternatives. For increased safety and visibility, you can also utilise LED strip lighting on clothing, equipment or your bicycle frame. If mountain biking is your thing, you’re looking for visibility. LED lights will offer high visibility on rocky, tree- root laden, offroad trails. Look for a light with a hot- spot in the middle which will offer a longer reach.

LEDs f or Mount aineering LED lights are more durable than other lighting options, making them perfect for mountaineering head lamps and torches. Because they have no filaments (conducting wires), they can withstand more shock than standard lights, so they are less likely to smash when you slam them into a rock face. LEDs f or Camping LED lights are the perfect solution for camping lanterns, lights and torches. In terms of keeping eco- friendly, LED lights use at least 75 per cent less energy than a standard halogen bulb. They don’t contain harmful gasses or project any harmful rays, so are safe for the kids. Also, because camping is a seasonal activity and won’t be in the cards all the time, it helps that LED lights have a much longer lifespan. Pull them out one summer and they will still be working for the next 20. LED lights also switch straight on to their full capacity, making midnight bathroom breaks in the bush (slightly) less painful. LEDs f or Snowboarding As LED lights operate at a low voltage, they are much safer to use, and better equipped to handle extreme weather conditions such as rain or snow, compared to other lights. If you’re considering hitting the slopes at night, stick- on LEDs are a great option to stay safe and be seen. You can stick them on to your board and your gear. This will also look really cool on film, so pack the video camera! From: lightingever.co.uk
