NEON ECLIPSE Creative strategy

Neon Eclipse

Neon tribal as a theme can be interpreted in a wide range of ways. My initial thoughts when thinking of neon is the use of UV resources such as UV paint and lights. With the incorporation of tribal patterns and music, this combination would be an intriguing concept for the future event. With all areas of art forms coming together to produce the event based on this theme, it will be a successful outcome.

Concept.

The images collected on this page represent my ideas of the use of neon UV paints with a tribal twist. Orange is an important colour to incorporate in order to represent Wigs and Warpaint accurately, by including their signature colour.

The aesthetics of the event need to resemble neon tribal whilst interpreting my concept, here is a collection of images that denote what I envisage for the event.

Title. The title ‘Neon Eclipse’ is a mixture of the given theme and my concept. The name is simplistic yet powerful and resembles the theme of the event successfully, whilst intriguing the audience to ‘come watch our Neon Eclipse’.

Neon: (Noun) The chemical element of atomic number 10, an inert gaseous element of the noble gas group. It is obtained by the distillation of liquid air and is used in fluorescent lamps and illuminated advertising signs. Eclipse: (Noun) An obscuring of the light from one celestial body by the passage of another between it and the observer or between it and its source of illumination.

Logo.

My logo is simplistic yet contains graphic elements to make it appealing, as well as eye catching. It includes the name of the event clearly, which means the logo can be used for promotional purposes. I have incorporated the colour orange within the typography to denote Wigs and Warpaint and also included shapes which are typically used in tribal patterns.

Spatial Design.

Work Display.

Posters would be hung by thick string which has giant orange hairdressers hair clips to hold the posters from the pillars of the SHU.

Media. Social media is one of the biggest parts of media since the invention of Web 2.0, which means it has a massive impact on all its users. With social media sites such as Twitter, Facebook and Instagram being so popular, I decided to produce accounts for the event on each of these sites in order to create awareness and promote the event successfully. These platforms can be used to create a hashtag such as ‘#SHUXWIGS&WARPAINT’, which would produce recognition. Gif’s can be utilized on Instagram, as well as live videos of the event being held on Instagram live.

Promotion.

There are many ways in which promotion can be used which are closely link with my other specialist elements, such as posters and media. Pop Up shops engage with the target audience in a unique way without entirely investing in a full store. A Neon Eclipse pop up shop would sell ‘all things neon tribal’ as well as Wigs and Warpaint hair care and also clothing and jewelery made by SHU students. This would create awareness of the event.

Being interactive with an audience and making them feel apart of the event is important. I aim to make guests feel intrigued, interested and want to attend by sending out invitations. They will arrive at guests houses in an A5 box, which simply has to be slid open where by they will find a piece of black card and a UV torch. They will need to shine the torch onto the card in order to reveal the neon message.

Runway Ideas. The layout of the space where the runway will take place is shown on my spatial design. There will be a stage made up of light up boxes, which neon lights and films can be projected from. The audience will be seated on neon light up cubes around the stage area and live traditional tribal drums will be played at the side of the stage. These will also be played in time to the steps of the models.

There will be 10 models to represent Wigs and Warpaint’s 10th year anniversary. They will appear from behind the audience and walk within them prior to reaching the stage. This interactive element will make the audience feel included within the show. Each model will hold an LED neon pole to connote the use of spears within traditional tribes. Each model will also wear plain trainers with neon shoe laces, which will glow and draw attention to their steps as they’re in time to the drum beats.

MUAH.

Here is my sketch of how the makeup will look on the models. Using neon products and paint in tribal patterns; the UV lights of the runway will make the makeup glow. Each model will have the same makeup to denote how they are a tribe.

This is my sketch for the hair style of the models. Using neon temporary dye or spray the hair would be coloured neon ombre. With a loose braid around the back of the head, feathers would be incorporated in representation of tribal hair styles. This hair would be powerful on the runway alongside the makeup look.

Posters are an effective way to promote an event as well as displaying photographs. Above is the image which captures my concept; which will be displayed at the event. On the following page is one of the posters I created in order to promote the event. It has simple information of where and when the event will take place which makes it intriguing.
