Christ-led ministries effecting social change in Memphis

What Impact Does Faith-Based Giving Have? The total annual income of American churchgoers is 5.2 trillion

In 2005 the average American churchgoer gave 2.53% of their finances. During the Great Depression, that number was 3.3%.

American Christians make up 5% of worldwide Christians, but control 1/2 half of the Christian wealth.

It would take only 1% of the annual wealth of American Christians to lift the poorest 1 billion of the world’s population out of extreme poverty.

Only 5% of American households give 10% of their income towards ministries. 9% of born again Christians tithe.

* stats provided by, Hole in Our Gospel by Richard Stearns

Ministries included must . . . Be outwardly and inwardly Christ-centered in its mission, must have at least two paid staff members, must be an active 510(c)3 in good standing, must have financial transparency, must have responded to the Giving Guide questionnaire by the time designated, must have a ministry budget of at least one-hundred thousand annually, must be ministry focused primarily within Greater Memphis, must operate outside the jurisdiction of a singular church, must not operate primarily as a business or a school.

What Leaders are saying in Memphis Rex Jones President, Hope Christian Community Foundation

“God has blessed us with a number of generous givers who are making a difference in His Kingdom work by giving not only of their financial resources, but also giving of themselves. It’s fun to watch God David Jordan Executive Director, AGAPE Child & Family Services

“Eliminating isolation by creating community through the body is what many Christ-centered ministries in our city explicitly focus on which leads to transformation of youth, families and communities.” Lauren Young Executive Director, Kemmons Wilson Family Foundation

“God works through people all over our city. New ideas are being generated daily and innovations of impact our driven by people of faith who desire to see His love in action. Perfect love drives out the fear of failure and brokenness and reveals the hope of new beginnings in all of us...that’s what ministries all over our city are accomplishing.” Carol Jackson Executive Director, Families Matter

“The foundation of Christ-led ministries is our ability, our power to give back, to help those in need. We are the foundation to a better country, a better state, and a better community through our diversity of efforts. Christ-led ministries thrive by serving and helping all people grow in faith, grow in the knowledge of family and friends, and grow in the knowledge of the importance of serving others.” Jay Harvill Senior Vice President, Lipscomb & Pitts Insurance

“God continues to shine a spotlight on Memphis by incubating and launching powerful non-profits that are impacting our city, our region and the Kingdom. The nation and world regularly come to see how the people of faith in Memphis meet the needs of the broken world around them and the Giving Guide spotlights some of the great entities doing the ‘heavy lifting’” Joye Allen GROVE Administrator, Barnhart Crane & Rigging

“The ministries included in the Giving Guide are doing the important work of building community in Memphis. These ministries are changing lives, creating leaders, meeting physical needs, teaching job skills and most important sharing God’s love.” Todd Payne General Manager, Bott Radio Network 640AM

“There is no better place to do ministry than Memphis, Tennessee. Memphis is a city with a big heart and a lot of soul and there is no greater demonstration of that than the numerous Christ-centered ministries in this city.” 3
