PIXELHOUSE Revamping Geylang Bahru’s aged industrial estate into SOHO apartment where it promotes live, work & play in one environment. Pixelhouse is a project designed for a married couple in their mid-thirties to reside, work & leisure also to accommodate their pug into the living space. Both wife and husband are graphic designer with their own design firm where they hope the design concept of the SOHO studio apartment abide to their profession. The space must allow them to manage their business, do studio work, hold client meeting and reside all in one apartment. Using their graphic as a concept, where pixel was derived. THE LEARNING LAB New use for Thomson Community Club, to provoke inquiry into the cultural, societal, architectural and environment issue surrounding design. Proposed design to showcases and tells a “story” and provide information/story/content related to the context of Thomson Community Club. With elements which responds to approaches in sustainability. People’s Association engaged the student to propose a new use for Thomson Community Club. Research was done to better understand why residents stop using the facilities provided in the community club. Through the findings, we understood that Thomson Community Club is currently under-shadowed by shop houses located near the community club, residents are no longer attracted to the community club where they prefer to hang out elsewhere.

STUDIO PROJECT 3 Thomson Community Club

The design strategy to tackle the root of the question will be to implement a Youth Learning Centre at the back building of the community club, result from the research pointed out that the building highlighted in red was not actively in use. Eying potential use for the area, while retaining the rest of the community club in it’s original state. The Youth Learning Centre consist of kids’ library & study area for students to study. The Youth Learning Centre will therefore bond the residents and community of Thomson together with common interests ;studying & reading in mind.

ART REVITALIZE Using parasitic architecture to explore design ideas and concepts within a specific context, investigative study, analysis and research into pertinent design issues and the resolution of the design problem leading to a comprehensive design outcome. Parasitic architecture is adaptable, transient and exploitive form of architecture that forces relationships with host buildings in order to complete themselves. With LASELLE, SOTA & NAFA located close to one another, the site is located within the three art school location. There is a opportunity to do something for the art student in Singapore. It has been known artist do not get the needed exposure in the art scene in Singapore. Using narrow and long empty plot of land located at Bencoolen Street, Beside NAFA Campus 3, the narrowness of the site give a strong impression of how much exposure artist in Singapore is getting and how artist is neglected by the public as a whole. Using the site location as an advantage, It aims to provide an platform/stage for art students, hobbyist or amateur artists to showcase their work. Giving the opportunity for these group of community to develop themselves in this ever booming local art scene. It also encourages other to pursue art in education or as a hobby.

It has full heights windows to maximize the amount of light passing through. Using wood as interior finishes, it gives more texture to the space and bring the space a step closer to nature.

POSB SEAT DESIGN Students were approached by POSB/DBS management to give proposal of bank branch seating design to solve their seating issues. My group’s proposal was considered and brought up to the management of DBS Bank where they implemented our proposed seating design into their selected branch outlet before rolling it out to all their branch outlet. DBS/POSB has a problem where customer do not want to use the seats provided in all their branch. To better understand and rectify the problem. We conducted ground research and found that the public did not like the seat as it does not have support, the branch is not wheelchair friendly. It is messy and does not give users the privacy they want/need. Our mission is to Make POSB/DBS branch a better place to sit,we aims to create a hassle-free experience by creating a seamless and comfortable seating for customers of all age groups.

1. Current Seating Plan

Simple & easy layout of the seating, however, it lacks support for our back.

2. Privacy In Design

We provide enough privacy for the customers but also, at the same time enough room for them to open up to their surroundings.

3. Flexibility In Design

Able to accommodate more people in a small seating space.

4. Flexibility In Design

Able to accommodate more people in a small seating space.

Priority In Seating

Our design caters to all ages including the handicap and at the same time, making them feel comfortable and part of the community.
