Chapter 1

Changing Our Lens The dictionary defines a miracle as “an effect or extraordinary event in the physical world that surpasses all known human or natural powers and is ascribed to a supernatural cause.” 6 What I’ve learned in my years of practice is that we are all capable of experiencing miracles, and our miracles show up in many ways: The miracle of loving again after your husband dies in a tragic accident The miracle of finding the courage to walk away from a lucrative corporate job to launch your dream business The miracle support that shows up to help you leave that not quite abusive, yet not quite heathy relationship The miracle of finding an affordable apartment in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, against all odds The miracle of running into an old friend that gives you just the right insight at just the right time The truth is we are surrounded by miracles. They are, quite literally, everywhere and happening all the time. The problem is we can’t witness miracles with our regular eyes and ears. By design or by default, our senses are simply not made to process the incredible shifts that happen in the subtle space between the mind and body. In order to experience miracles, we need a new lens, one that is able to see to the level of the soul. This chapter introduces a
